more media around pregnant transsexual men

One of my (non-trans) friends just emailed me this link to a Salon article about a transsexual man in Spain who is pregnant with twins. I hadn't seen anything online about this guy, and while I found this short piece fairly flippant, I appreciated the last line, in which the author hopes "we can all get back to focusing on more important things, ( Read more... )

I heard about him a few days ago. I know when I go to my GP's on Friday, he will be brought up whether I want him to be or not.

Actually, I've already noticed some positive impact from transmale pregnancies being in the public eye. A friend of mine had his baby recently, and when I told people how excited I was for him, I had way less explaining to do than I have had previously when using male pronouns about a pregnant person, because people already knew that transmen can have babies. It made those conversations a lot more "normal" to be able to focus on how great it was that my friend's baby is healthy like anyone else's baby, and not have to explain all the trans stuff.

Yeah- my hope is not for less news, but for less disrespectful news. Eventually, hopefully, it won't be news at all, but right now, I don't think that it's inappropriate for this to be news- I think visibility is important for minority comunities. What is infuriating is this disrespectful/sensationalist/offensive tabloid style exploitation of such "news."

Never read the comments attached to mainstream articles about trans people.

I heard about this guy on Fark a couple days ago. Reading those comments for three minutes made me want to nuke the world.

I wonder how long he was on T before he went off; the article says he had to use fertility treatments to aid in conceiving.

YAY! Shit like this validates the Dr. that chose to call me "She" during my ultrasound yesterday when they looked in my history and saw my last ultrasound was the once that got me my hysto. He was like "You used to have a uterus?" "I was like, yeah, I'm trans. It's not relevant to the status of my liver though." He was like "Hurrr" and then, upon calling in another dr. to help him with a picture, was like "SHE had a hysterectomy last year." That Dr. was like "What are you talking about? This patient? OHHHhhhhh"

Every pregnant man that bandies himself about gives permission to the world to treat us ALL like that.

Perhaps you should refrain from wearing your wife's lingerie under your clothing. At least, y'know, on the days when you know you have to go to the doctor. I doubt they'd notice your silk panties otherwise.

It was OVER my clothing.
Jeez. Do you think I have no sense of style?
