HPV vaccine, insurance coverage, changing gender mark...

Mar 04, 2009 20:19

i'm insured under my dad's employer health insurance plan. my dad has me listed as male on this plan. back in april 2008 i decided to get the HPV vaccine. i got the first shot in april, the second in may, and i was supposed to get the third around november, but i think i ended up getting it in late december or early january(?) i can't quite remember.

anyway, my parents recently got a bill for the vaccine. the insurance company is denying coverage, stating that the procedure is not approved for the gender that i'm marked as (i don't have the actual letter in front of me, that's just basically what my mother paraphrased over the phone).

has anyone disputed a similar denial of coverage? any advice on how to navigate this? i don't really have a problem with the idea of being marked as F on my health insurance, but does anyone know, from experience, what the likelihood of being able to do that is (the only form of ID I have that still says F on it is my (non-U.S.) birth certificate)?

thanks in advance.
