How This Fest Works

Oct 02, 2017 01:38

The objective of this fest is to get rid of as many WIPs as you can!! Back in 2016, we tried a version where you pick your own deadline, but as everyone who signed up spectacularily failed to meet their deadlines (which, on second thought, shouldn't have been a surprise at all) this has been turned into a competition!!

How does that work, you might ask? Simple, from November 1st till March 31st you write as many words on all your WIPs as you can! So this time, it's not only about finishing, but about making progress, because all progress is good progress! And some WIPs are absolute monsters that take months to finish, while others are small, and would be easy to finish if someone would just kick your arse into gear. Hence why there will be prizes in the following categories:

- Most words written
- Most fics finished
- Oldest fics finished

All you need to do is to head over to the sign up post, sign up with the required information, hit post, and you're good to go. If you manage to finish the fic(s) you originally signed up with, simply comment on your original sign up comment with the info on your new project or edit the original comment you made.

When you've signed up, and your mod has gotten around to it, you'll be given a link to a google sheet where you'll be able to update your monthly wordcount. Please remember what while you're naturally allowed to work on other fests while participating in this one, only words written on your WIPs should be registered in that sheet. And don't worry, nobody else will be able to edit in your wordcount and vice versa. Google sheets is neat like that.

When one of your fics is ready for posting, please make a post to this community and tag it accordingly. You can find a posting guide here.

And now on to the rules:

1. You may only enter with Works In Progress. New works are not permitted. After all, the point is to clear up that WIP folder, not add to it!

2. You may not enter with fics for another fest currently in progress (Merlin Holidays, Merlin Mpreg, Winterknights, etc). This is only for fics you have no other deadline for, which has kept you from buckling down to finish it. However, fics from fests you did not complete are eligible, along with fics you wish to extend beyond their original fest requirements - like drabbles originally written for Pornalot or camelot_drabble that somehow grew way beyond the word limit. Fic from fests such as hurt/comfort bingo, kinkmeme etc. are eligible as those do not have a deadline.

3. Works must be Merlin or Merlin RPF. Crossovers/Fusions are allowed, but Merlin characters must be the main focus of the story.

4.You may enter with as many or as few fics as you like.

5. Only words written on one of your WIPs counts towards your word count. Please do not cheat with this! So if you're also participating in another fest, remember that the words you write on that fest does not count int this fest. And if you're working on something that isn't Merlin-related, those words also don't count.

6. You are required to update your own word count each month. Your mods will not do it for you, unless you do not have access to a google account.

7. A fic does not count as completed until it has been posted to the community. And while you are free to post your fics chapter by chapter, do not make a post until it has been fully completed.

8. Fics with intended, but unwritten sequels are allowed, so long as each part is a complete story, not just each shapter being posted as a new sequel. Which also means that even if you post several entries in one series, it will only count as one.

9. Betaing is enchouraged, but not required. If you can't find a beta/your beta had an emergency/you just don't use betas in general, we don't want to put off completion of your fic.
