Zero Population Growth; remember that? I was reading about a man in the Philippines who walks three hours a day to get 'what he hopes is' clean water for his SEVEN children. SEVEN. ZPG is one of those things that's probably easiest if it just happens. In most advanced, well-to-do nations, people don't have as many children. So economic development can help with a lot of it. But it's really hard (as in: might start a revolution) if you try to push ZPG in a poorer nation. You might get a lot of help if you dispense free birth control to any who want it... at the very least, most women want a couple years between babies. But it's also interesting that a lot of nations are having problems due to an aging population due to low population growth. We have some interesting problems; it'll be interesting (in the sense of the mythical Chinese curse) to see their solutions.
