Oct 12, 2008 21:36

Cyn (vacivity) and I were batting 31_days prompts at one another over G!Talk again; this time I suggested we build up the numbers of prompts we strung together. Therefore things got longer and more difficult! Then it was one prompt from each of us to combine into fic :x
(Cyn's previous fics are here: Ace wo Nerae, Nobuta wo Produce, Gokusen and Yasha; Nobuta wo Produce; Hana Yori Dango; Ace Wo Nerae).

fandoms: Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi, Hana Yori Dango, Ace Wo Nerae, Yamada Taro Monogatari, Yasha.
prompts: from various 31_days months.

-

21 December 2005: This place that was no place (Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi: Dam-Duk) 107 Words.

-

Stepping out through the broken window, avoiding trails of vines growing over the shards of glass, Dam-Duk steps into another world, one he would never have suspected was here, so close to Goguryeo. The view is thick with trees, all kinds of plant-life in fact. The air is heavy, thick and cool as though the dawn and dew is perpetual in this place. It is as though time has not touched the forest, and that the King of Goguryeo has stepped onto its grounds makes not the slightest impression.

For a moment, he entertains the idea of just settling himself down and never going back home.

11 October 2005: I know how furiously your heart is beating + 14 August 2005: All night long I've held your hand (Hana Yori Dango: Makino, Domyouji) 174 Words.

-

It's the way Domyouji stands and stares at her, seeing right through her. It pierces deep, to think that she could actually not matter at all, or matter so little that she would be so easily forgotten in Domyouji's mind. He can remember everyone else, his friends and family. It's just her and her alone, the only one who does not matter. She stands alone just wishing he would take a step towards her.

-

Makino wakes in the middle of the night and Domyouji is still sleeping peacefully. His chest sounds better, though she knows by now he is prone to catching colds in the worst situations. She can't blame him too much this time, though - it is still snowing outside. She looks down to find that even in his sleep Domyouji is clutching her hand as though to promise he will never let go again, and she hopes to herself that perhaps his mind let him forget about her because the emotions were just too strong to bear, not the opposite.

20 June 2006. snow and ink + 10 July 2006: The woman in me shouts out + 18 November 2007: as steady and as bright (Ace Wo Nerae: Ryuzaki Reika, Chiba Takashi) 565 Words.

*

"I'm here to take photos for an article in the school paper," he says, smiling in a friendly, but not sleazy sort of way. He holds out a hand but seems to know Reika will not take it.

"I heard that it was the boy's team the paper was featuring," she says idly, unpacking her racquet from her case and tossing her hair over her shoulder as she looks out onto the court, scouting for someone to challenge her. As usual, there is no-one she feels will put up enough of a fight. Her mouth twists in annoyance and she looks towards the boy's courts instead, searching for Toudou.

"I heard that one of the members of the girl's team often practises against the boys," Chiba replies. He doesn't make it an accusation like everybody else does.

Reika feels herself thawing slightly towards him.

*

"Has someone annoyed you today?" Toudou gasps out, but he is laughing as he says it. No matter what he says he manages to be inoffensive, and that's one reason Reika counts herself as a friend of his. It is simple and easy with Toudou - he is always appropriate and almost businesslike, especially on the tennis court. Toudou knows Reika comes to him to improve her game, and so he plays to her weaknesses, exploiting them without antagonising her.

"What do you mean?" She asks, defensive even to Toudou at times.

"Your game!" He says. "That was something fierce, even for you!"

"Oh," she says. She glances to the sidelines, and Chiba is there, watching. She has not been playing to the camera, which is lucky because although he has it in his hands, it is lowered and the light has switched itself off.

*

Although he keeps himself away from the girl's tennis courts after their initial meeting, Reika knows when Chiba is around, befriending the members of the boy's team (not only Toudou, but his best friend and second best player on the team Ozaki, too). He keeps his distance and respects that he should not invade her territory, but he is almost so passive that it bothers Reika. Surely if he were interested like he has led her to believe, he would have made some kind of move by now.

And then the research and photography is over, and Chiba is gone, back to the newspaper team's office, or the dark room, or wherever it is he has gone that is not the courts. Reika suddenly finds the girls of the team an adequate match for her skills, because she is so distracted by Chiba's abscence. After almost losing a game and earning an entire team's worth of concerned looks from the girls, Reika picks up her things and exits the courts for the day.

He is sitting at a desk, sorting through papers as though nothing is wrong. And it angers Reika so much she can't even speak. Her rage is ice-cold, not a sparking fire. She simply stands and glares, knowing her point will get across.

She knows just how perfect he is when he looks up and meets her gaze with the same soft smile he always does, and acts just like nothing is wrong. He stands up and walks over to her as though this is how they've always been, and then changes everything so much that it's exactly as it always has been.

23 January 2006. Lost in the supermarket + 28 November 2006. father figure (Yamada Taro Monogatari: Taro, Mimura) 189 Words.

-

"Uh, Taro?" Mimura is pulling at Taro's sleeve in a decidedly uncool manner. Fortunately, Taro has never been one to notice how cool he himself appears and therefore doesn't often extend it to others, and nobody else around here is anyone Mimura knows anyway. "Taro, what are we doing?"

"I promised the kids a fabulous dinner!" Taro says, his smile edged with desperation. "The sale starts in five minutes, I just have to find the offers table-"

"But, why am I here?" Mimura asks. He pauses his tugging of Taro's sleeve to wonder this himself. He came of his own accord, and never thought to ask Taro where they were going, or why. He practically volunteered himself for this.

Taro shrugs. "I just thought you were coming to help!" He chirps. "Right, Mimura-kun?"

"Why couldn't you have a normal family," he mutters, "a normal, small family, and parents who do the food shopping."

"Even if we were a small family, my parents aren't the kind to do the shopping," Taro smiles nervously. "So I guess they're all lucky they have Mimura-kun standing by me to help bring home the dinner!"

21 October 2008. some assembly required + 17 September 2008. everybody knows that I hate you, except you (Yasha: Arisue Sei, Amemiya Rin) 127 Words.

-

"We belong together," Rin says. And, "we're the same, you and I."

Sei swallows, and smiles so that he won't grimace, and watches the clock. He doesn't know anymore if he is counting the minutes until he can leave and escape Rin's deranged ramblings, or if he is playing for time to save everyone else, give them all a chance to get far away. Rin doesn't seem to notice anything is amiss, smiling idly at nothing, at the wall, or at his idea of fate.

"I've always known something was missing," Rin says, draping himself across his chair, reaching down and stroking the fabric of the arm. "Someone, I should say! Haven't you always felt that way, brother?"

"Yes," Sei replies honestly, and thinks of Moichi.
