The parents are visiting - well, they have been since last Thursday. Which meant that I've had reason to be out and about to more interesting places of late.
Thursday June 21
They arrive at YVR, head back to my place, and dinner in the evening at Kingfishers Pub & Grill, right next to the old
Albion Ferry dock. It was a nice, reasonably sunny & warm evening, and with the pub right next to the Fraser River, we got to see it as it was rushing past. Right now, it's flooding in some places, so the river is high and fast.
Friday June 22
Took the long way out (via Lougheed Hwy/BC-7) to Chilliwack. Stopped off there for lunch. We wandered up and down Washington Avenue, which used to double for the main street in
Eureka. Dinner was a nice baseball-style top sirloin with a glass of red wine at The Keg. Mmm.
Saturday June 23
I noticed on Twitter that Rogers Radio in Vancouver, home to
Jack FM,
News 1130 (which I listen to both) and Sonic (which I don't) were having an open house. Never having actually gone to look around a radio station before, I thought this was a good idea, and convinced my parents to go. Definitely a good decision. Extremely informative, and the staff were extremely friendly and open with explaining how everything worked and they did their jobs there. They even had the morning DJs (probably the only Jack station to still have DJs) on hand, and I was able to talk with them for a good amount. I even got their personal business card for a potential studio visit during one of their morning shows!
For lunch, we went over to Granville Island and picked up something in the food court there, and then wandered around the place for a bit. The weather was still holding up to be nice, despite being forecasted to be wet, so that was good.
Sunday June 24
Any danger of rain for the day had passed by the time we left the house. Since it looked like it would be good weather, we set out for
White Rock. But since it looked like that we would get there way early, I had the idea to stop off at
Peace Arch Park. The fun little thing about this park is that you can actually step over the International border between Canada and the US without any documentation! (Well, as long as you go back, or actually have documents to cross into the other country through the checkpoint, that is)
Once we were done, we drove into White Rock and walked along the promenade to the south beach area, which is littered with Fish 'n Chip shops. Afterwards, we drove out to Langley to the
Domaine de Chaberton winery. Unfortunately, we missed the winery tour by about 30 minutes, but did get to do some wine tasting... and wine purchasing. A bottle of Canoe Cove 2007 Shiraz was a very nice compliment to the roast beef that I made up for dinner. I do rather miss roasted dinners. They're sort of meaningless to do by yourself, so this was a good excuse.
Monday June 24
Parents off to Vancouver Island for the week! I get my bedroom back... well, for a bit. Unfortunately, work has slammed into me hard. Due to others not doing what they were meant to do, I've pretty much had to do what they were supposed to do in three months... in a week. And I'm fairly close to having it done, too. :P
Parents are back tomorrow...so I need to think of other things to do until they head home on Tuesday.
