Work, Society and Mock Trial
I was going to make an entry about this, but I ended up telling it all to ELiz:
frying sok: hi
blackroseliz: hi
frying sok: how's every little thing?
blackroseliz: fattening
frying sok: you're such a girl.
blackroseliz: I would take that as an insult but I can't really argue it right now
blackroseliz: how's work?
frying sok: hillarious/sad
blackroseliz: story time!
frying sok: oh it's not any particular event, just kinda the atmosphere
frying sok: I'm absolutely convinced now that it's ignorance that keeps the working class down now.
frying sok: Yea they treat their employees like crap
blackroseliz: awww, that's too bad
frying sok: and when I say uh... "why don't you point out the management's mistakes, and get what you're legally entitled to?"
frying sok: "but I'll get yelled at"
frying sok: "and so? What'll happen?"
frying sok: "I'll umm... get yelled at"
frying sok: "if the company doesn't do IT'S job, you can't do yours, and it's not your fault, so don't stress. I'm going on my break, and it's my right to do so, you can sit here and pull your hair out."
frying sok: they think they have to make up for the failing of the management and then everyone's pissed off all the time
frying sok: I'm just walking around singing, I do my job, I do it well, but I don't take crap, and it's like it's a foreign concept to them, to not be oppressed.
frying sok: and they don't realize the leverage they have with the place being so severely understaffed. They're not going to get fired.
blackroseliz: what kind of people are they? Are they your age?
frying sok: Generally young, but there's one person in particular who'se been doing it for like 20 years and still isn't in a position of management.
frying sok: but she thinks it's her responsibility to do the work of 3 people because they quit.
frying sok: I just want to say calm the fuck down, it's the management's problem, not mine, not yours. They don't pay you to kill yourself.
frying sok: Which someone did apparently, during the strikes.
Most of my co-workers are minorities (some are picture-perfect negative stereotypes, which is disheartening), some ended up having kids too young, and that's why they're working. They're nice enough, they work hard, but they're not educated. They don't know their rights. This is why Mock Trial will save the world.
It's like cake or death, and they choose death. Do your job, do it well, but if it's not your problem, calm the fuck down for your own sake. If you're not given the resources you need, you can't do your job as well so realize it's not your fault. If someone doesn't get their sliced roast beef the world will not end.
