Dad got the replacement killer engine today and it looks to be a perfect match. But we've all heard that before. :/ Once again, it's our Mechie's problem to see if the shoe fits the foot.

The engine we got last week turned out to have too many hardware differences to be used in the Skylark, so Dad picked it up from our Mechie and took it back to the junkyard. The junkyard Mechies are excavating another engine and we may get it tomorrow.

Evidently Dad felt confident in himself enough to do all the legwork today. He got together with the Mechies (both our own and others) and they're satisfied that the engine we saw yesterday (from a '93 Corsica) is good enough for the Skylark. He paid the deposit at the junkyard; their Mechies will extract yon motor, and either they'll deliver it ( Read more... )

Armed with an advert clipped from a weekly classifieds tabloid, we journeyed up South Cumberland Avenue in Morristown to a lot that sells rebuildable wrecks. We saw a Lumina, a Lumina APV van, a Cutlass Ciera and a Corsica. Only the Corsica's engine mounting layout matched our Skylark's...but the engine in that particular Corsica was in dicey ( Read more... )

1) We can't fit a Pontiac engine into our Buick because the makes have different motor mount schemes. So either we try to find out if we can use a Chevy or Oldsmobile engine, or we have the prospect of another Buick engine that may only be slightly better than the one being replaced ( Read more... )

Tonight my father tells me the Buick ( that we rather gingerly delivered to the repairman July 23rd) is in "teardown" now and that if things with its engine are as bad as feared, he'll have to look for another engine for it ( Read more... )
