I tell ya, I hate this whole thing. Something's just not right. I live in a house converted to apartments, I don't have access to an ext. antenna so it's rabbit ears (or,you know, the 'bow tie') for me. Can't get everything available in the area but I had good, decent signal with the key stations and some new guys, OK?
Then something happened, and now suddenly I can't any ANY of the feeds from the NBC affiliate, the ABC feeds are spotty, and the Fox feed went from a regular 100% to bobbling between 40 and 90%. If a car drives past, if the upstairs folks walk around, if a cat farts *bam* I lose signal. and it wasn't LIKE that.
Of course I've rescanned again and again, I fiddle with the antenna like the analog days, and just AARRGGH.
I hate this whole thing. I do. I start to think this is all a plot cooked up by the cable and sat companies to force everyone to connect.(when of course it's all a plot to give the cell phone companies more bandwidth) Of course that would be crazy... :)
The de jure excuse is that the First Responders needed their communication to be on frequencies that wouldn't be as vulnerable to interference in urban environments. They had a lot of trouble on 9/11/01 because of this and it contributed to the loss of life on that day. But there's a part of me that agrees with you.
I have no problem with the analog TV freqs being given to First Responders. No problem whatsoever. But I had read something about how there was an auction by the FCC for the freqs and I think ATT bought up most of the 'space'.
Argh. I mean, if this resulted in all of us being able to get Dick Tracy 2-way wrist TV Radios with flat rate pricing I'd be all for it (where's my damn videophone? If I can't have a flying car I want my videophone! and not this crap 'buffer lag' stuff!) but all it will result in is more deceptive offers to sign up and get shafted on a technicality... not that I know first hand as I seem to be the last man on earth without either a cell or broadband...
No cell, no broadband, no cable myself. Not even a telecommunications sausage. BTW, I consider AT&T's current cartoon banner ads to be borderline offensive.
