Hey.
Just saw The Aviator (the DiCaprio version, not the Christopher Reeves version) on DVD. Well, I also cheated and saw the bio program on the extras disk the night before.
My realization: The only thing that separates me from Hughes in personality terms is that he actually had the resources to support any pursuit he wanted to take on. I'll never know if I would have been able to accomplish the likes of what he did with his own life in my own way.
When does a justifiable desire for a healthy life become a phobia centered on uncleanness and disease?
When does a reasonable interest in protecting one's self-security and rights in society become paranoia?
When does an enjoyable habit become a quirky obsession?
Strangely enough, I've seen all these things in my life and I don't have the answers myself. I guess the only way to come to terms is to accept both ways and at the same time go beyond both ways.
And I want to reap some benefit from my alleged genius before I drive myself mad.
