Sweet new MySpace widget
If you are a MySpace user, first and foremost I hope that if you're reading this you're also listed as a friend of mine, and if not, go here and add me, but secondly I would like to point out a cool application that my friend Paul co-wrote. It's called 8 Rate, and it uses a few simple algorithms to, in effect, break your MySpace popularity down into a single value between 0 and 100. Basically, as I understand it, it goes through your comments and your Top 8 and gathers some data about how you relate to your friends through the site. It's fast, it's easy, you don't have to register for anything (it just uses your MySpace username to gather the data on the fly) and they even coded a downloadable Firefox extension so you can 8 Rate anyone on MySpace just by right clicking on their name. Fat. It's in beta right now, but since beta's the new black, it's likely just a marketing ploy. I mean, look at what it did for Gmail.
