I finished c25k a while ago, but I haven't been able to get out and run more than 3 times a week, so that's been bumming me out a little bit. I really noticed a huge change in my fitness levels, and was even able to drop 5 pounds over the course of the program, so right now I'm really just maintaining, not improving.
I spent all day yesterday pissed off that I wasn't going to be able to run (I promised Josh that I'd be his "date" to the first hour of the 8th grade semi-formal he was chaperoning), but my mood improved greatly on the drive home, during which I noticed that I'd probably have about another 25 minutes of daylight (twilight, really) before it got completely dark.
So I truly sacrificed my dignity for safety and dug out a flourescent orange t-shirt from the depths of my shirt drawer, mapped out a 5k on Map My Run, and ran by ass down the stairs. It was definitely too dark to be on the streets for the last 5 minutes of my run, but at least I was in the complex.
I came in at 35:45, which was much slower than I wanted, but the streets I ran on were pretty hilly (I think 121 ft incline/decline over the course of it, mostly concentrated in two areas), so I know (or hope I know) that I'll come in a little faster on a flat course.
I'm signing up for a "non-competitive" 5k for Sunday the 27th. I know I'm slow, but I'm ok with that - my goal is just to finish the race without walking. It's in Stone Harbor, which is nice and flat, but it's also at 9am, and I'm a big fat baby in the heat (if I run in the morning I run at 7am), so I guess we'll see how it goes. I'll be in SJ tonight and tomorrow for training, so I think I'll head out on the Sea Isle boardwalk at 9am (it's 3 miles up and back) and test myself in the heat.
