You know what they say about good intentions and all?

I have them...I just have trouble following through, it seems.

Really though...if you're on Facebook and we're not already friends there, find me and send me a friend request -- because I'm there just about every day. Unfortunately, it's just easier to post on the go there. :(

I miss the journal concept though, to be very honest.

Okay...updates!

Nio MacDonald Oatley Harrison

So, Nio is 18 months old now.

I know...how the hell did THAT happen????

He started walking on 10 November. One day shy of being 13 months old. I think he started running the very next day. *LOL*

At the moment, he LOVES Little Charley Bear and dinosaurs -- he especially loves Buddy from Dinosaur Train. His favourite color is orange -- he will actually pick orange over any other color, given the choice. Considering this has been his 'signature color' since pretty much birth, it makes me extremely happy that he actually likes it.

Shoes are something else he loves. Pretty sure that he got that from me. He's had some pretty awesome shoes so far -- with our favourites being his Stride Rite R2-D2 shoes. At the moment, he has a pretty good rotation going with his clownfish Converse, tiger Adidas (my faves right now!), blue Vans, blue/white striped Osh Kosh boat shoes. In line and ready to go are a pair of orange Converse and custom hand-painted high top Converse (painted to look like R2D2).

He's a golden-haired boy...which surprises everyone. Chances are it'll darken in time, but for right now...he's GOLDEN. His eyes...so hard to actually name the color, to be honest. They were grey for ages. They're not brown, they're not green, they're not hazel...they're kind of...bronze-y. Yeah, bronze fits pretty well, actually.

He has 16 teeth and his 2 year molars are well on their way, bless his heart. He talks up a storm, chooses fruit over chocolate, loves animals, loves music and loves to dance.

And I am absolutely in love with him.

Freya:

Freya turned 8 in March. She's our sweet grey lady now. Adores Nio. And I mean ADORES!

She's going to have to have surgery in the next few weeks. Nothing too major, but she has a cyst/growth on her leg that needs to be removed. The vet doesn't think it's cancer, but it needs to go because it could become ulcerated from her sitting on it. Luckily, Freya has health insurance!

Xanthe:

Xanthe will be 10 in September. And she had an emergency amputation of her right rear leg two weeks ago. We're not sure how she did it, but she managed to break her leg near the ankle joint in two places. Unfortunately, it was an amputate or euthanize situation.

Considering that she's in good health otherwise, euthanasia wasn't an option.

She's doing remarkably well and has been in and out of the house since Monday (two days ago). We definitely made the right decision!

How I wish that Xanthe had health insurance! *LOL*

Allonsy and Weller:

Allonsy and Weller will turn 4 in September. I have no idea how that happened. Seriously. They're such good boys...so good that they don't have any good stories to tell you about. :/

I will say that Weller has finally learned how to hunt things other than bark and leaves. He's brought in a mouse and a couple of frogs -- all of which have been rescued and released.

Both of the boys love Nio too and allow him to use them as pillows and such. :)
Nio calls all cats "Xanthe" and differentiates between our cats by calling them "Xanthe", "Xanthe-Lons", and "Xanthe-Wella". It's really quite adorable.

Family Drama

I made the decision to finally cut my father out of my life. Again.

This was actually a hard decision to make. Not because I wanted him in my life, but because I don't want to deny Nio his grandfather. But, the fact of the matter is...my father is not a good role model for Nio. I told my father that I'd send him an email a few times a year with Nio updates, but that I was tired of the guilt trips, the lies, the sticking his head in the sand and ignoring the problems...of course, he ignored that message too. Whatever, I'm done.

I lost my Grandpa suddenly in December. I'm still trying to deal with his death, to be very honest.

He hadn't been well for a while, but it was issues with his back - degenerative discs and such. He had surgery and was doing a bit better.

A routine blood test showed that he was severely anemic, so he was admitted into hospital and given a couple of blood transfusions. He was doing a bit better, so he was moved into rehab to work on his back a bit more because he'd been having more pain.

His blood levels dropped again...another transfusion. And more tests.

I received an email from Mom on Saturday, 14 December (Friday, 13 December in the States). Grandpa had been diagnosed with lymphoma - it was at least stage 3, possibly stage 4.

The next morning, the phone rang at 7am. It was Mom...telling me that Grandpa was gone.

I was, and still am, completely devastated. I was still trying to wrap my head around my Grandpa having cancer...and then he was just gone. I wasn't able to see him again...I wasn't able to go to the funeral. It wasn't "real" to me until our Christmas phone call. It was the first Christmas call in the 10 years I've lived in Australia that I didn't hear Grandpa's voice.

And that's when it was real.

Like I said, I'm still working through that...but, I'm getting there.

*whew* that was a lot to type! *LOL*

And basically...that's what's been going on with me. My life is pretty much all about Nio these days. And I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

I'm sorry I've been AWOL. Like I said, hit me up on Facebook...I miss LJ people. xx
