Weekend

Back at work today after a busy "weekend". For me and my six day week (yes, I've given up on having Mondays off, I'll revisit that concept once the book is completed), the weekend is Saturday night-Sunday.

So: Saturday in the shop was a busy day. My feet were already sore after a day on them and the ceramic floor so perhaps a Moonlight Tour of St Kilda Cemetery wasn't the best of ideas - never mind, the cold and the dark and the warmth of friends soon ensured that my mind wasn't on my hurting tooties for long.

The tour was fun, but that was because of friends, not the tour itself, which was poorly executed. I heard very little due to the lack of any PA system and the inability of the guides to project or raise their voices - and in one case, not even face the group. Due to the crowds, I often missed seeing the graves we were talking about too - thankfully The Age were there. When I got bored of not being able to hear and perched on a nearby gravesite, they took photos of Tim and I. They also wrote an article about the tour which gave me a lot more information that I had gleaned from actually being on it (I suspect that their tour guide was a bit better than the one we got). Thanks also to tcpip and caseopaya who knew more about some of the grave residents too - and were adept at projecting their voices as well. Next time I'd like to sign up for the "Lev and Erica tour".

Afterwards, it was down the road for a pub dinner and the best bit of the night: catching up with friends, some of whom we haven't seen for a very long time. I was shocked to see that my newly blonded locks left me as the only non-redheaded woman on the table.

The following morning we breakfasted at Mario's, followed by a quick visit to the shop to get frocked up and do a few shoppy things before heading off to High Tea at the Park Hyatt.

A special treat was the attendance of Super Kawaii Mama, fashion blogger extraordinaire looking particularly glamourous in a very vintage-friendly cream coat. SKM has blogged about the event already and you can admire her gorgeous coat by following the link. I hope she drops into Circa soon because I'd like to dress her up like a raven-haired Veronica Lake (and that's my Veronica icon you're seeing today to illustrate).

After High Tea, Tim and I dodged the football traffic to pop down the road to Richmond for Love in Bright Landscapes a fundraiser gig for Jonathan Alley and Danielle Karalus who are making a documentary about the very talented David McComb. David died in 1999 but his legacy through his music continues. The gig included five bands performing songs of The Triffids, solo Dave and two of his other bands: Black Eyed Susans and co-star, as well as some of their own.

The night included an auction of memorabilia, and with auctioneers like Andrew Gaynor, how could I not bid? I think he was a bit surprised to see us take home the Mick Thomas package of Weddings, Parties, Anything signed DVD, double pass to the Nova and - most priceless of all - a St Kilda guernsey signed by the 2008 team. It will make a great present for Tim's footballer-brother and we got it for a good price because (not suprisingly) the audience aren't keen football fans.

I don't see as much live music these days as I used to, so wasn't familiar with any of the bands apart from the BES - but I was really impressed by all of them (with the exception of the Diving Bell, who could really do with a singer). The Mimeset in particular were great - the three tracks they chose were not my favourites but their interpretation was really excellent, especially "I want to conquer you" which melded well with Sean's poetry.
