Fuck you, penis! FUCK YOU

So.

I wouldn't say that I'm a proper feminist. I don't know enough of the particulars to be a proper feminist, and honestly I don't want to know the particulars when they just make me furious. Granted, I know a lot of people would say "But if you're angry, you should speak up! If you feel strongly about it, try to make a difference!", and that is ( Read more... )

On the one hand: Holy crap, it's a Frotu, I haven't talked to you in ages!

On the other: I refuse to 'accept' any of that crap, but that doesn't really stop other people from applying it to my life. I don't consider myself a hardcore feminist, either, though I think I should be - and that's because of a mixture of factors. It's partly because modern feminism is so fragmented and impenetrable difficult for someone not already familiar with all the issues and the factions to understand and participate in, and partly because mainstream society is doing its damndest to pretend that all civil rights battles are over and won and those of us still not satisfied are just whiners and attention seekers. Never mind that this is completely unsupported by the hard facts - if you're a feminist, you must only be in it because you hate men and want to give women special preference in everything. It's the same problem going on with queer rights, too - because the fact that you're (probably) not going to get fired anymore if you come out of the closet means you've already attained total equality, right?

We act like the civil rights movements are over and done and something for the history books, which is really kind of batshit insane when you look at the current state of things.

Holy crap, it is indeed a Frotu! It's only been like... a year since I posted anything on lj. And yeah, maybe it'd be a good idea to e-mail and such again. Life has just been crazy crazy lately. Haha, maybe this time we'll actually accomplish that stuff with the cafepress shop that we discussed before. Whoops.

Yeah, I think feminists today kind of have the same stigma as unions. They're things people look back on as having had a time and a place, but people seem mostly annoyed and frustrated with them now. I don't particularly want to align myself with the feminist movement nowadays because the atmosphere I get there is a bit more hostile than I would like, even though I suppose it is understandable with the way they are probably treated and viewed.

It is something that I find continually frustrating about America that we are just so frickin lazy nowadays. We're too lazy to make new technologies, too lazy to update outdated laws, too lazy to make changes to modern society. We used to be such an innovative, forward thinking country... not always the most forward thinking, of course... but everything is so stagnant now. Politicians are only concerned with stuffing their pockets and covering their asses, and the people are so disenchanted with lawmakers that we don't think there is any way to change things.

I know they say that within the next 50 years, they project that that gender gap will be closed in the US. I suppose it is a sort of accomplish to get that far in about 100 years from the feminine movement. But considering how far many other countries are, I wonder why it's taking us so long.

We really should do emails again. And...I have no idea what's going on with the Cafepress store. Do they owe us money? I bet they owe us money.

I do think there's a lot of hostility within these groups, yes. Like the ones who will call it 'mansplaining' and go on the attack if any man ever comments on something that is difficult in his life due to the fact that he is a man. Yes, men in general have privileges women don't. No, that does not mean that every man is privileged in every possible set of circumstances - and no, having privilege in one area of your life does not somehow magically exempt you from ever being a victim at all. Grow up, people. You're not helping your cause.

I think you've hit the nail on the head re: politics. It's easier to just not care (or to pretend I don't care) than it is to worry myself over it when I have a basic, core belief that all politicians are crooked to the last man, and every single one of them will screw us over, even if they do it according to different agendas. It makes it kind of hard to care and to get involved when I honestly don't see any satisfactory solutions within the current system.
