trip to paris, 31 may 2006

You know when I went to Paris with morbidmuch on the 31st of May?! Well, I finally resized all of the pictures (actually I resized them and then had to re-resize them since they were too big for photobucket). So this is the full report:

The plan was that Kath would come to Antwerp-Berchem and we would take the Thalys to Paris. But then Kath's train didn't go to Antwerp! We were both a bit panicky and I couldn't hear Kath very well through the phone when she called from the Netherlands but I managed to exchange the tickets so YAY - that was a relief. We had to go to Brussels then and I had some trouble finding her on the train, but I found her in the end. In Brussels we had some time to kill when we arrived, but we were going to Paris, baby! We found our seats on the Thalys and then ... both kind of dozed off ... Gah. It was a comfy train!

When we arrived at the Gard du Nord, we were a bit confused about where we had to buy metro-tickets. The automat was eventually found and the tickets were bought. There was another panicky-moment before we managed to get out of the metro-station. The first thing we did was go to le Jardin du Luxembourg. We just walked around a bit and took pictures. It was a pretty park, quiet too. Lots of birds.

this reminded me of the TARDIS [/dork]

We went inside some museum in le Jardin du Luxembourg.

more art. I thought this was actually pretty cool. The paper maché guy was looking at pictures of himself, wrapped up in his bag.

We left the park.

We had to go to the Notre-Dame of course.

When we left the Notre-Dame the weather suddenly got crazy. The sky was very dark and it started to rain very heavily, we had to use our umbrellas but the wind was CRAZY. We continued walking and went to the Louvre. We got there just when the weather started to clear up again.

We crossed the street and went to the Jardin des Tuileries.

We took another train/metro thing to la Tour d'Eifel. At first we couldn't find it ... we entered this park-thing and I thought we were looking at a part of one of the feet of the Eiffel Tower ... until we realized we just had to move our heads a little to look at the real one. LOL. It was much bigger than I remembered. Soldiers were patrolling all over and the weather began to get worse again. Kath has a brilliant picture from under the Tower!

We didn't have the chance to really visit the Northern part of the city, we only had a quick look at the Sacre Coeur after I almost died on a never-ending flight of stairs (stairs from the metro, not the Sacre Coer!) from coughing (I just had had a cold) and laughing. We walked back to the the metro-station (Kath had really done an excellent job with the figuring out of the metro-stations and lines we had to take! I could never have done that.) and went back to Gard du Nord. We took the train again, drove to Brussels and ate some pizza. Then I made a mistake and Kath almost missed her last train home. I still feel really bad about it, Kath!

It was a very lovely day. I had a lot of fun and it was nice to see Paris again!! :D

Kath's pictures are really beautiful, you can view them here!
