On Darkness*

Jul 08, 2010 22:33

Sometimes, the things in my field of vision don't all show up at the same time. Bits of darkness, like the inside of a keyhole, the dark handle of a valve on one of those pipes near my ceiling, an insect, will appear only after the lighter (or lighted) surfaces. It gets confusing in summer. I'll see a dark bit and think, "I have you now, mosquito!" But it's really the keyhole, asserting itself.
