Regarding the orchids...you should take a look at a book called The Botany of Desire, by Michael Pollan ( no, really, that's his name! ), wherein he discusses mankind's affect on plants, and vice versa. Actually, he focuses on four: the apple, the tulip, the potato, and marijuana. More than just informative, it's a terrific read!

i one time took ice-cream out of the freezer and instead of putting it back in the freeze i stuck it in the microwave :P i didn't realize i had done it till i went to make microwave popcorn later that night and found a big mess of mettled ice-cream.
