[50 prompts] "Night."

The air was still thick with heat despite it being close to midnight, but to Gabriel, that didn’t matter. Of course he was hot, with the outfit he was wearing it was impossible not to be, and he wondered just how insufferable it would be the next day, but deep down, he knew that it was worth it.

It was the summer of 1493 and they were in Florence. The craze of Savonarola was just starting to pick up heat, the next year the Medici’s would be overthrown and he would be crowned new leader. They’d been there a while now, deciding to settle down for a bit, mostly because Gabriel had begged, though he didn’t know how long they would stay. He wanted to stay for years to see everything that Savonarola would do with the burning of art Piazza, at the same time as he wanted to take a lot of the art work and run away, because he knew its fate. So much was going to be lost in the great fire. Mirrors and cosmetics, lewd pictures, pagan books, immoral sculptures, gaming tables, chess pieces, musical instruments, fine dresses, women’s hats, and the works of immoral and ancient poets. So much that could mean so much to the culture where they were from would be lost because of his psychosis, and he knew he couldn’t change it, because if they changed that, who knows what it would do to the future?

“Can we stay?” he asked softly as he felt arms wrap around him from behind, and he leaned back against the other with a soft, happy sigh. Despite the heat, it was still nice to feel the other close as they stood out on the balcony that overlooked the city. Underneath they could hear people drunkenly yelling and singing as they stumbled down the street. The stench of the city that had been overpowering when they had first arrived, he was used to it now, as he was used to everything else that came with the time period, and he honestly didn’t mind.

“You want to stay?” Peter mumbled back to him, and Gabriel shivered as the others breath tickled the back of his neck. It was good to have these moments, sodomy as they called it was a punishable offense, often to death, and therefore they kept it to their home. What people didn’t know wouldn’t hurt them, and as long as no one else knew, it wouldn’t hurt them either. That was probably the only thing that Gabriel disliked with the whole situation, that they couldn’t be affectionate with each other the way they could in modern day society, but everything else made up for that. That of course was Savonarola’s fault, they’d visited before too when homosexuality was accepted, and Gabriel had to admit, it was one of the happiest times of his life, just because it was so different.

“Yeah…not; forever, but just for a while,” he replied, turning and pushing Peter back into the house and out of the one of view someone would have if they tried to peek in so that he could kiss him, a harsh kiss as he pushed him back against the wall. “I love it…I love the time, I love the place despite the heat. We’re at a beautiful time, it’s…well, it’s not like we don’t have all the time in the world to travel everywhere else in the world and time.”

“Well, maybe for a little while, it’s not like we can’t pop out and pop back in. Though, I have to admit, we do have a gorgeous home now,” Peter said, nodding thoughtfully and all the while keeping his lips against his as he was talking. That, the promise of a little while was enough for Gabriel as he this time pushed Peter back towards the bed they shared on a nightly base’s.

It may have been hot out, but that didn’t stop them from making love, it was a beautiful night, after all, and with the way the moonlight poured in from the large windows, to Gabriel there was nothing more beautiful than being able to watch his lover toss his head back in ecstasy and to hear him moan his name.
