Im not a mic guru either but Id definately go with a Shure SM57 they are a great all purpose mic.

Animating gifs... macromedia fireworks is ok but has a learning curve, flash can export animated gifs too... id go with flash personally its very straight forward, but then again im a macromedianerd so...

I second the SM57. I've got one and the thing is great. Rugged, good sound quality, and you can use it to mic pretty much anything with good results.

hehehe, thanks for the links... and actually, I think I will turn to Image ready sinced I alread have it. But you are right about flash, I ompletely forgot about that option.
