More things in DC

Tenly campus, where I live, has about 400 students in it, all part of the Washington Semester. On the main campus of American University there are about 5,000 I think. I don't think I'll meet a significant fraction of the people from the main campus so I'll concentrate on meeting people here in Tenly. Mostly the Americans stick together but I've actually spent more time with Internationals than Americans and they are good people. The sudents all have Harry Potter type things on our door of the 4 houses. Griffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw. I chose Ravenclaw and my roomate chose Slytherin.

I'm taking an economic policy seminar which counts as two classes. I'm doing an Internship (I don't know where yet) which counts as 2 classes and I'm also taking a regular elective class on the main university campus on International Economics. I'm a little nervous about the internship but I'm going to send resumes to the US Chamber of Commerce and the National Beareau of Analysis tonight.

I went to the movies with some of my new european friends last night and saw Memiors of a Giesha. Here is kind of a funny cultural anecdote. Several of the european girl where talking about their respective american roomates. They were LOUD and Obnioxious and like HIPHOP music and they are wild about french guys. "Oh my GAWD" they say loudly to each other "Have you seen the french guys? I want to get one for a boyfriend." I said to them something jokingly along the lines of "American girls must seem so loose to Europeans." All three of them looked at me at once as if to say "Of course American women are whores, how could you not notice this?" American girls have repuations for being total sluts and that is funny to me. The movie was ok, but I think the movie ephasized the romantic aspect of the Chairman's and Sayuri's relationship and sacrificed Nobu's character. Nobu is an awesome character and I felt badly that they treated him like a frusterated loner because Nobu is a noble person.

The people from Europe aren't used to the drinking age. Since American University is a dry campus like Norwich, it is kind of like Everybody is underage. When they ask me "How do you live with the drinking ago being what it is?" I all of a sudden get this noble expression on my face and say to them, "I persevere!"

Free Napster, Free Cable, Better food. Gosh Darn it, its nice here! I think I will come back to Norwich after this semester though. I have lots of friends at Norwich and it would be a lot of trouble to transfer my degree to another school.
