Snow? SNOW?? It was in the 70's all last week - I was wearing shorts and sandals! It can't be snowing today!! I like cold winters and all, but winter is over!
Anyway, back on Friday when it was still Spring, Aunt Judy and I went to the Birchmere to see the Seldom Scene. They were excellent as always, although we both think they need to put out a new album soon, or at least work some new songs into their live show - having seen them several times over the last couple years we can pretty much predict which song is coming next.
Yesterday afternoon I went to Ricky Skaggs' appearance at the Towson Border's. It had been listed on the DCBU bulletin board as starting at 1:00, but evidently it had been postponed until 3:00, so I got there a couple hours early. But that was ok, since it just gave me time to read the latest issue of Bluegrass Unlimited, and it meant that I got to watch the performance from the front row, about five feet away from the band. It's a lot of fun to watch all the picking up close and personal like that (the band's banjo player is Jim Mills, who we saw at the Earl Scruggs workshop). I bought the new live CD they were promoting, and got it autographed. Although what I really need is an autographed photo, since my "Birchmere" wall is still looking a bit bare.
I thought about going to the Lonesome River Band concert at the new Black Rock Arts Center in Germantown last night, but by the time I got back from Towson at 6:00 I wasn't really in the mood to turn around and head back out. So I just stayed in and listened to bluegrass cd's instead.
