I've been reading the LJ FAQ about flagging posts and/or journals as Adult Concepts. I'm thinking about going back and marking some of my posts, heck maybe my whole journal this way. You see, I have young relatives, who are much more innocent than I was at their age, and I honestly don't think they could process some of what they might find here.* Of course, that's not my responsibility to ensure, and I certainly haven't given them the link here, but I'm considering what exactly my responsibilities should be.
On the other hand, I also feel that at least a couple of the posts on my LJ, especially those which discuss the dynamics of abuse, might actually be useful for someone. That someone may well be under 14, especially if there's a history of abuse similar to my own. In that case, an adult concepts flag would prevent her/him from finding information that could be relevant.
Finally, I could find no information about how such a tag would impact search engine indexing. I don't feel the need to promote this journal; however, I do want the posts to be searchable by those looking for info. It is my understanding that what gets put behind an LJ-cut does not show up on search engines, so I'm thinking this would hold true for anything marked Adult Concepts as well.
*My young relatives/friends are brilliant, but they're still at a stage where absolute thinking prevails. This leads me to another conundrum, how do we protect individual expression without creating environments hostile to innocence?
