A few weeks ago the government of Canada announced a new "Autism Spectrum Disorder Working Group." The aims of the group include early detection of autism and helping families with autistic family members. No mention of supporting autistic adults in areas such as employment, housing, or independent living. Just to make things worse, there are no autistic people in the working group. It includes members of Autism Speaks, other autism "family" organizations, and a few scientists and researchers.
Unfortunately, a few days after this group was announced an election was called, so the minister who is in charge of the group isn't answering any letters or e-mails because for all intents and purposes, she isn't the minister anymore.
