Goodbye Bob Cole

Aug 15, 2015 17:53

Message today (15th Aug 2015) from Sarah Wootton at Dignity in Dying.

Good evening,

If you can, please watch ITV News at 6:30/10:30pm this evening. [That's British Summer Time, one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time]

Today, Bob Cole had an assisted death at Dignitas in Switzerland and his story has been covered by almost every major media outlet in the country, including a front page in The Sun newspaper.

A committed campaigner, Bob originally got in touch with us about his wife Ann who had an assisted death at Dignitas in early 2014. He joined us at many campaign events, and some of you may recognise him from our demonstration outside Parliament last year.

In June this year, Bob was sadly diagnosed with mesothelioma (a lung cancer caused by asbestos) and after learning of his short prognosis realised he could not have the death he wanted in his own country.

Bob Cole: I should be able to die with dignity in my own country, in my own bed. The law needs to change.

It is vital that MPs listen to the voices of terminally ill people like Bob, and the majority of the British public who want the law to change.

Can I please ask you to forward this email to your friends and family - it's important that as many people as possible to hear about Bob's story.

Thank you,
Sarah Wootton

right to die, people: bob cole, conditions: cancer, legal action, conditions: terminal illness
