I've just received this from Dignity in Dying.
Dear Supporter
Tonight at 9pm on BBC2, Sir Terry Pratchett will present Choosing to die, a documentary in which we witness the final moments of Peter's life - a man with motor neurone disease who chooses to have an assisted death in Switzerland.
The documentary has faced fierce criticism from some groups who have accused the BBC of being a 'cheerleader for assisted dying' and Baroness Jane Campbell has urged those opposed to assisted dying to phone or write to the BBC and complain.
In contrast, the Radio Times asks: "But surely television has a contribution to make to the debate about one of life's great questions: should we be allowed to choose the time and manner of our own deaths?".
If you do watch the programme, please phone the BBC with your thoughts. You will only have a short amount of time to leave your comment and name and address and you can do this by telephoning 0370 010 0222 and selecting option 1. Also let us know your thoughts by commenting on
our blog, or joining us on facebook or twitter.
It is crucial that our national broadcasters continue to engage with this debate and are not discouraged by a vocal minority opposed to any level of discussion on the issue.
Many thanks for your support
Patrick
