The joy brought on by Obama's victory was bittersweet, as we watched Proposition 8 pull ahead, in California. To witness such blind hatred and such a direct attack on basic human rights, first hand, was absolutely sickening.

These people are uneducated, bigoted, and afraid of what they don't know. They preach the Bible's teachings, most, without ever having read it all the way through... others, after having read translations of translations of translations of translations, and taking someone else's word for it, concerning what it all means. They speak of what "God" meant for marriage to be... as if this "God" invented such a thing. They scream the word "fag" at normal people who just want to be treated like everyone else.

And then there are people like my own mother, who don't see why they can't just be happy with civil unions. It's just a different word, right? Well, were blacks satisfied to have separate bathrooms and water fountains than whites? They were still bathrooms, right? They both had the same function, didn't they? I mean, I really don't see why they had such an issue with it.... And separate schools? What was so wrong with that?

Any kind of segregation is not equality. It never was and it never will be. Civil unions are unacceptable. This fight will not be over until justice is served.

Last night, I took part in a historic event, as an estimated ten thousand passion filled people gathered in the streets of West Hollywood, to fight for what they believe in. After attending an anti-Prop 8 rally, which was planned less than 24 hours beforehand, the protesters spontaneously broke off into four groups and marched the streets, through traffic, for the remainder of the night. People honked, to show their support, and some even parked their cars and joined in on the march. Towards the end, it began to turn violent, as police batons came out and the SWAT team arrived. It's sad that so many people don't see the similarities between last night and past fights for equality. History really does repeat itself... and it is only a matter of time, until one more group of people has the rights it deserves.
