I was thinking on a theory based a concept I saw in an episode of the X-Files called "The Field Where I died' and it was the idea that certain souls are bonded through eternity, and will alway come together no matter what life they live. I think in a way these people are l ike that that, bonded to eachother. And the lighgt as time, fits right into the idea. And I like the overall idea of all of that.
It is true how irritating some can be when it comes to things like some canon couples. And you did point out they were the FIRST canon on there. I think if some go back and watch the earlier seasons they'll see it, and some never will of course that's just how it works.
I like how some think they know more then the wirters, know the characters better and thinking just know better. The writers CREATED these characters, thy know t hem pretty welll. Naveen, who PLAYED Sayid, said on several occasions how important Shannon wad, even said if Sayid haad the power, he'd bring her back. Who knows the character better than the actor who plays them?
There were people who actually said, they shouldn't have coupled them off at the end, just should have had them all reuntie and i'm like 'what?' If the y hadn't dont that, taken the weenie approach, with no ressolution, there would bemore pissed off people than there are now. There had to be an end, there has to be a definate conclusion IMO
Truth is those geeks and disgruntled shippers always think they can write the show better, if they could do that, they'd be doing intead instead of grumbling online right? hehehe

It was the first time I had heard of the "group soul" concept and I agree that's what it was, in the end, in The Church. The Losties were parts of a group of souls and they were waiting for each other so that they could move on (not leaving, as Christian said) and I think that it was indicating that they were a group, souls bonded together and that they were going to be reincarnated all together. Mother said it: "The Light is life, death and rebirth".
Apparently, when you get reincarnated, you have a group of souls which follow you everywhere. But that doesn't mean that all the souls that you meet will be reincarnated with you. Jack's mother isn't here, Sun and Jin's daugher isn't here (and as heartbreaking as it is, I get it: for Sun and Jin's daughter, her parents are just old stories and old pictures, they never played a role in her life, other persons were so much more dearer to her during her time on Earth), Charlie's brother isn't here, Sayid's wife isn't here, Claire's mother isn't here, and that was why the flashes sideways were so important. Before they had to move on forever from those souls, the losties had to make peace with them to start a new life on a solid ground, without the burden they had in their previous lives.
NA said that? Well, I guess it's another bonus for the "Sayid was talking about Shannon, not Nadia" theory, in Sundown, he? Yeah, like you, I'm surprised that some people have forgotten Boone and Shannon so easily. They were big parts of the show, and when they were killed, it made the front pages in every magazines on the planet! Did Nadia get that? Huh, no. When MG came back for just a cameo, it was all over the entertainment news. Why? Because it was BIG. She was part of the original Lost, of the cult part of the show. Nadia never got that.
The fans should watch Seasons 1 & 2 again, they would see how much Sayid had loved Shannon and how the ending made sense.

It's like you said, those other people weren't part of that bond of souls, they were simply obstacles and thing they had to let go of in order to mover on. And to where, we don't know, but they're going together. I do believe there people we are connected to over the long course of time and that we will always find them eventually.
The thing with the reunions, is wwho knows long they took.. how long it seemsed since they'd seen eachtoher. It's part of why its so emotional, but it's also the acceptance factor as well. Especially Jacks. It's what made it so powerful was the incredible emotion involved.
Now I know most smart peole got that the light on the island was the same as the light that came through the door of the church. The light is everything, and you either become part of it when you die (a concept they used for the force in Star Wars) or it's your conduit to the next the life. I love that's open to so many interpreattions.
In the Dark Tower Series there's the concept of Ka and Ka-Tet, Ka being like Fate or destiny or whatever, and Ka-Tet is a group of peopel bound together by fate. They will always come in contact with eachother, will always find eachother. No matter what life they live.
Naveen did say that in a magazine article that came out around the time as Sundown aired. It was for me enlightening because I started to think about it and realized that while Sayid seemed to have somewhat accepted Nadia's death , he never accepted Shannons.
And that had slot to do with why he wanted to leave so bad, and he was basically dragged onto the plane to go back. Facing those memories again and his failure (in his own mind) to not only save her, but to live up to the promise of never leaving her as well. Once he was back there he was faced with that all over again.
I do think that you do have to watch Season 1 and 2, and even beyond that, just to see the effect her death had on him, how far it drowe him. You have to see him pick her up and carry her, have to see him dig her grave himself. You have to see him break down while questioning Ben and losing contorl because of the grief. That's someone who wasn't extremly important to him.
And to me, just that little throwaway moment when they have their heads together and their eyes closed is so touching and so not in need of words. It said everything in one shot. They didn' say alot in the scenes they had in the finale.. simply didn't have to.
You can agrue til your blue in the face and some won't see it. That's their problem. I know I and most other people saw.
