Freyr’s Stag Antler
“Freyr…fought with Beli, killing him with a stag’s horn.” -Snorri
_____________
The stag antler with which I killed Beli is a manifestation of my penetrating male energy. Whatever weapon I used whether it was a spear, sword, knife, arrow or my own fists it would have been a manifestation of the same energy. The weapon itself matters less than the energy that the weapon embodies.
But my stag horn represents much more than the deadly force of my penetrating male energy. It also represents the masculine energy of life. Stag horns correspond to the rays of the life-giving sun. As sunrays radiate out from the face of the sun, so antlers radiate out from the face of the stag.
Stags use their antlers in many ways. They use them to show their age and status. The larger their rack of horns, the greater is their age and status. They use them for exercise in play fighting with other stags. They use their antlers to defend what is dear to them. They use them with deadly force only when t is necessary to defend their own.
I still carry the antler I used to kill Beli. It is a knife, a dagger for stabbing not cutting. I use a stone knife for cutting. Copper, bronze, iron and steel are for warrior tribes not tribes of peace. I do not allow them in my presence. Yes, I had a dwarf-made sword of steel that swung itself if wise was the one who wielded it. I used it in the war against the Aesir. It served me well. We won that war by forcing the Aesir to a truce. Skinir took that sword and never returned it. I do not grieve for it or want it back. Being steel, it suits Skinir better than me. He lacks the wisdom to wield it anyway.
