Freyr’s Sword
“The sword…swings itself, if wise he who wields it.” -Skirnismal
______________________
Freyr said this when I asked him about his sword:
It was a large and mighty sword forged according to my own desires deep in the earth by my Dwarven kin. It had a power all its own. If the one who wielded it was wise, it swung itself. The one who was wise unsheathed it only to defend against a threat. Skinir was not wise. He unsheathed it not to defend himself against a threat but to threaten the very woman I loved, Gerdr. His unwise use proved ineffective. It failed.
You are right. I did not give my sword away for Gerdr, to Skinir or anyone else. I had no reason to. I certainly did not sell it as some believe. I had and still have all of the wealth I desire. Skinir took my sword and never returned it.
Likewise, the story of me fighting Surt is pure fiction. I fight not with the Aesir against anyone. Ragnarok is the twilight of the Aesir not any of the Vanir.
