Job Update

Geez, there's a lot of this lately.

Bob Evans still hasn't called me back. I'm giving them until Tuesday which will be exactly a week from the second interview before I will call them and ask what's going on. I had an interview for another babysitting job which I'm really hoping to get. There seems to be a lot of freedom there. She wants me to take the kids to the Y and to the museums downtown and to the library. That would make the day go so much faster and really give usa chance to bond. The woman seemed really strict but I don't think I really have anything to worry about. I was a bit wary of putting the woman who I am currently in the process of leaving on my references. I don't know why; she told me that I could, but part of me is having these awful images of her making things up to make me not get the job as punishment for leaving her. When the hell did I get so cynical? These are nice people who have back-up sitters just in case this sort of thing happens.

Plus, the competition didn't seem very serious. This lady was just having very bad luck with the applicants who were asking for an interview. I would like to highlight some of these now. I am not trying to be mean, but it just shocks me the lack of common sense or seriousness over any job in this economy.

1) The position is open in the first place because the current sitter failed to show/call three times. My boss did want to give her the benefit of the doubt and went on craigslist to see if she could find a last minute sitter. She found her current sitter running an ad for a new job. When confronted the girl said that she was seeking a new job because she wasn't getting enough hours. My potential employer promptly told her that if she showed up then the hours might be sufficent and now there is a job opening.

2) A woman shows up with a child of her own - which was fine, according to my potential boss - but was unable to control even her own child.

3) A woman shows up and becomes impatient with the children during a brief fifteen minute interview.

I have to undergo a criminal background check to rule out felonies and the like. That will happen if she chooses me or me and someone else. Everyone keep their fingers crosses.
