[Warning] ... danger ahead

It had been several weeks since Annie had stopped by Danielle's before heading out to Langley, but she figured that three days before the Superbowl was both enough time for her sister to prepare for a larger party and not enough time for her sister to actually cancel it.

Plus, if things had been going better, as Annie had surmised from the voice mail she'd gotten the night before, then Danielle shouldn't really be in any mood to argue. She'd been after Annie to have a more active social life and, well... this was definitely social. In fact, this was more social than she'd been in the last few months.

When she walked into her sister's kitchen Thursday morning, it was utter chaos. Nothing new there, if she were honest. Katia and Chloe were running around the table not eating the pancakes that their mother had made for them and Danielle was yelling something about backpacks, buses and being late. Annie took it as a sign to get her coffee from the pot and sit at the island.

Once everything was settled and the girls were off, Danielle joined her back in the kitchen with a huff of breath and a smile of relief at her sister.

"Not that I'm not happy to see you, but why?" Was how the conversation started, and Annie knew that things were going to be just fine.

Pouring another spoonful of sugar into her coffee cup, Annie said, "So, about your Superbowl party..."

"I have it all planned out. I'm making these cupcakes--"

Annie cut her off, though her grin was not just because of the cupcakes. Well, it was, but not because she was happy for her own sake. Cupcakes would be a very good thing. "I invited a few friends. I hope that's okay."

Danielle beamed. "Of course that's okay! I'm so glad to see you getting back into the social scene after that whole thing with--"

And again, Annie cut her off. "Okay, okay. Don't go getting excited. My friend Phil is bringing his girlfriend and I invited a nice guy named Steve."

"Steve?" The look on Danielle's face said it all and Annie shook her head.

"He's kind of new to the area and needed a place to watch the game that wasn't the local bar," Annie said. "It's not that kind of get together. Believe me. So, behave." She gave her warning as she slid out of the chair and stood, finishing her cup. "Everyone's coming around three or so, and will probably stay until the end of the game. Um, Phil's girlfriend has a huge sweet tooth, so those cupcakes might go kinda fast." Very fast.

Leaning over, she kissed her sister's cheek. "See you Sunday."
