I finally finished setting up my place, finding at last a desk I like. It took me 1+ year, and I might be moving out some time next year, but at least it's done!
Work is still crazy, but things are going OK. I take a little more time for myself nowadays, not getting out too much, but I'm more relax overall. Plus, the Thanksgiving break next week will be good.
I've been in Oregon for 15 months now, so here are some of my impressions from the West Coast:
- unofficial Oregon color: Green
With all the pine trees around, and all the rain, green is definitely the State color. Even though Washington is called the 'Evergreen State', Oregon is pretty much the same. Note that I did not spend much time in Eastern Oregon, more desert, where the main color would be sand, but my impressions focuse on Western Oregon.
- unofficial Oregon car: Subaru Outback, preferably green, with a ski attachment on the roof.
I swear, I see 3-5 every day just going to work. Actually, the Subaru Outback represents 10% of my company fleet car! over my 30 colleagues, 3 have one...
Note that the Ford F-150 is a close second place. lots of pick-up trucks around here!
- unofficial Oregon sport: fishing
River fishing I precise. Even in the middle of winter, you can see kids practicing fly fishing in the city park lawns!
- unofficial Oregon TV sports: College football
Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers. That means Oregonians spend only 3 months watching sports on TV. After that, nobody cares about baseball, the NFL, the NHL, the NBA...
- unofficial Oregon drink: micro-brews
Lots of them around here, the most famous being the Deschutes Brewery from Bend. But wine is also very appreciated here.
- Unofficial Oregon animal: the possum
The official animal is the beaver, but there are possums everywhere here...
I will keep completing this list some time, there's still a lot to say!
