I know I'm spamming you this weekend

But I wanted to post about an article that caught my eyes a while ago:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/31/12-years-a-slave-reviews-telluride_n_3848373.html

Chiwetel Ejiofor is one of those brillant actors on whom you can count to be excellent no matter the part or the film, but who never broke out the way they should. I've been following him since Stephen Frear's Dirty Pretty Things and he never disappointed me (he was the one redeeming quality of that awful 2012!). I was happy to see him in the excellent BBC series, The Shadow Line, but afraid that it might mean the end of his film career (there has been a rumour about him being the next Doctor Who for ages too...).*

Fortunately it is not and looks like he got a big role in a hyped film. Besides his acting skills, I think he's quite handsome

So 12 Years A Slave is a film I look forward to seeing. It's Steve McQueen's third film, and even though I didn't think that Shame was as good as Hunger, he is definitely a terrific film maker. It has a dream cast, not only with Ejiofor as the lead, but with supporting actors like Michael Fassbender (of course), Benedict Cumberbatch, Garret Dillahunt, the flamboyant Omar from The Wire aka Michael K. Williams...

Now I just hope that all the talks about Chiwetel being an obvious candidate for the Oscars will NOT end up like all the talks about John Hawkes last year! That said, as charming as The Sessions was, I have little doubt that 12 Years A Slave is another kind of film and belongs to a superior league.

*ETA: And he's starring in Dancing on The Edge!

ETA 2: And now that I've managed my linky issue, I'm adding this review from The Independant that tackles the problem of violence in the film.
