Endings are a delicate matter

I've just seen the finale of Caprica, "Apotheosis". I'm neither disappointed nor blown away. I'm rather in the middle, noticing some bad stuff here and there or the lack of some good stuff I tended to associate with Caprica, and yet spotting a few neat things, acknowledging the effort and a certain achievement in bridging Caprica and BSG. I don't ( Read more... )

Endings often leave us hoping for more. They're a petit-morte, a little death; and much like an orgasm you just don't want it to stop. So they often do not suffice.

I've come to think "Chosen" was perfect as a ending for BtVS on TV. Even that last scene spoke so much, though Buffy only said one word ("Spike" in answering Giles about what had caused the cratering). Buffy had quipped her way throughout the show, always with a good line to taunt her adversaries or describe her slayage. But everyone was speaking at her in the end, and all she could do was look on what was Sunnydale and smile. Her smile spoke more than anything else she could have ever said at that time.

I like the ideas "Chosen" was based on, and I really like the final metaphor of Buffy sharing her power and making the girls achieve their potential, but there are showy things in the episode that made me roll my eyes :battle scenes that looked like cheap wannabe Lord of the Rings, or Buffy running in the end.

"Chosen" had great things in terms of writing, perfect for the series finale, but it wasn't always well-done.

I know I'm hard to please...

We'll have to discuss those 5 episodes on the 6th then! ;- )

I wish you could have a BSG marathon before seeing them...

I read they moved FRINGE to Friday nights from January on...and there are cancellation rumours too.

:-(

Yes, it's my understanding that it is on Friday starting 28 janvier. I don't know if that means it is not coming back to the 28th or earlier? Friday has been the death knell for many a TV show, especially on FOX. Although X-Files managed to do well on that day for years. Yeah, some people think it means FRINGE is near being cancelled; others think the move to Friday is a good thing for the show.

I don't know.... but I have hope FRINGE is safe. Some people have pointed out that it takes 4 times the money to produce FRINGE compared to another show (I think it was SMALLVILLE). I wonder if SyFy might pick up FRINGE, albeit at a lower budget? Eh, I'm just hoping FOX keeps it on.
