The City is Back

Aug 29, 2010 15:03

Well, the calm that was August is now at an end. The city is back.

The market this morning was bustling. Our favorite fish guy greeted my son in English. I'm loyal to him because their fish is excellent and, equally important, he stayed around during the summer.

We're staying off the roads this week because everyone will be out shopping for "La Rentree," or back-to-school.

No more driving into Paris with Ace, skimming past the Musee d'Orsay and the houseboats on the river as we tootle along with the few cars on the road. Now we're taking the RER and metro.

No more easy parking spaces, no more free vacation parking.

No more getting sloppy in my outfits because nobody I know will see me.

No more letting my kids yell at the tops of their toddler lungs because the neighbors have been gone and there's no one to hear us.

The joys of August...gone.
