I recently wrote an article about a woman here for an expat magazine. She's amazing. The main thing that got me was that she, an American, is raising her son here on her own. She's decided to make France her home, not for family or a husband, but because she loves it. Has a job, bought her own house, had her child here.
On days like today, when I'm crying into my pillow at how hard it is to take care of my two kids, in winter, sick, with few friends for support and family nine hours difference away...well, look at her!
Said to Ace today, as he was trying to install Linux on the Playstation so we could watch our old copied movies:
"Hey honey, you know my new friend? This is what she does--this is her job, hacking."
"I'm not hacking," he said. "This is Linux, which is worse."
She doesn't hack, it's true. She teaches the history of the internet (and hacking) to university kids.
