(I wrote this very late last night)
Oh boy, where to start.
I returned to the Paramount offices early this morning, and I could tell that _A_ was surprised to see me. I quickly realized that as far as she was concerned the matter had been dealt with, and no more would need be done. I don't believe she was happy to find I did not feel the same way. I think it was along the lines of, “this is the fourth time we've sprayed, it can't be a problem any more”, whereas my thought was 'this is the fourth time you sprayed how can you think this time will be any different?” Over time I had this question answered, but more on that later.
Note: She did offer me a copy of the rules on breaking our lease (or something like that, she was talking awfully fast), and I quickly said that was not my currently intention.
I talked to _P_ a bit as well, and he seemed much less receptive to any idea of us moving then I had hoped he would be. One thing he said worried me more then anything else. Shortly after I mentioned moving, he said something about not spreading it around the building. At first I thought he meant the bugs, then I realized he meant he didn't want anyone else in the building to know about the infestation. I left with the number of the person who did the spraying, realizing I wasn't going to convince them of anything with out finding out more myself.
The pest control guy (_D_) didn't end up calling me back until shortly after 5:00 and I must say he seemed very well informed, and was very open about what he and P had been up to. He kindly told me all of the steps that had so far been taken, and even made sure I had spelt the chemicals correctly. Though I feel less of a need to do so now, I am still going to call and get a second opinion on the best way to deal with Bedbugs. He also agreed with staying out of the apartment for at least 10 days. It will be at least that long before we can tell if the treatment actually worked.
Then came the next two big surprises.
_A_ had mentioned something about the bugs hiding in the carpet of the room originally infested with the bugs. What the pest control man informed me of is that they had left the carpet out in the hall, and this is when they are assuming the problem spread. What doesn't yet make sense about this is 1) they did this very recently, and 2) we've definitely had the bugs for a few weeks at least. I did also figure out from this that the apartment that had the infestation was very likely the one right across from us, as you can see carpet fiber all over the floor, AND all the way down the stairs to the front door.
The other big surprise, and this one has me really worried, was _D_’s comment "The super and I took it upon ourselves to investigate the apartments for the spread of the bugs." IF this is true, and I feel it needs more investigation before I take this as fact, this would that mean _P_ and _D_ went into apartments without notifying any tenants. We sure had no idea about any "checking" going on, and it would be kind of hard to do this with people home.
Very probably more to come.
