“How about dinner?”

Fiona looked up startled from the book she was reading. So what if when the drama teacher handed her the book telling her it would come in handy for her audition, which was still a month away. She found the plot line compelling. And of course she was going to audition, but she was not going to attempt to tempt Madison to commit murder by auditioning for the role of Elpheba.

Alex had given her a look of disbelief when she had announced this at the beginning of their daily lunch in the art room.

It had been over a week since she’d been cornered by Alex, and they were hanging out like friends now.
It was oddly satisfying for Fiona sticking it to the face of the stereotype that said two gay people couldn’t be friends.

Alex had come out to her during their second lunch while complaining about the fact that her mom was being a bitch about the whole gay thing, blaming her dad and shit.

Fiona remembered chocking on her spinach and cheese Panini and looking at her with wide eyes sputtering, “You’re gay?”

Alex had given her a look and then looked down at her wardrobe pointedly.

Fiona wasn’t about to make assumptions about anyone, not even when that someone blatantly invaded her personal space, gave her surprise kisses on the cheeks and on one memorable occasion on the back of her neck, or gave her these looks that had more to do with seduction than attentiveness.

“You have a problem with that?” she had asked then rather defensively and Fiona could’ve been mistaken but there was slight panic in her eyes.

Fiona had shaken her head and had taken a sip of her soda, “No problem at all. I’m gay too.”

Looking back at the week, Fiona figured she should’ve realized this was going to be coming up sooner than later, becoming just another statistic.

“Dinner?” she asked slowly putting the book down. “Like a date?”

Alex shrugged, “If you want it to be, it could just be two friends hanging out like we do here every day, but it will be more public and in a place that doesn’t smell like turpentine and paint fumes.”

Fiona bit her lip and resisted the urge to smile, because if she did admit it to herself she would’ve seen this coming from a mile away.

“When?” she asked forcing the smile away.

Alex grinned like if she had granted her access to the Wizard of Oz-so sue her she had gotten attached-and said, “Tomorrow night at seven.”

Fiona felt her smile wilt at that. Saturday night was the one night a week she promised her mom she would be there to take care of the munchkins. Her mom rarely went out since her accident and it was good to kick her out of the house and make her hang out with her friends. Now it was just a tradition.

“I can’t tomorrow,” she said a little surprised at the utter devastation in her voice.

“Why?” Alex asked leaning forward so that she was crossing the table and almost in Fiona’s personal space yet again. Fiona looked down and refused to look at her.

“Because since my mom’s accident, Saturday was the only day I could force her to hang out with her friends. It’s become this sort of tradition for her to leave me with the munchkins on Saturday nights since I had no social life at all.”

There was silence for a bit and she looked up when it became to prolonged. Alex was watching her with a speculative look on her face. She grinned and leaned back, “How about I help you take care of your munchkins? We can study for that History test, and I’ll bring some pizza.”

Fiona’s lips quirked into a smile, “That actually sounds really great.”

Alex grinned as if she had just accomplished something important and they finished their lunch in relative peace.

It was around three thirty on Saturday, when Fiona was picking out her mother’s clothes for the evening and Bobby and Kate were dancing around in her shoes shouting lyrics to a catchy pop song that Fiona realized she really didn’t warn Alex what she was getting into.

She panicked about it for about an hour before realizing that it didn’t matter. Alex was just a friend.
Something that she had to tell her mom about three hundred times before the woman finally gave her the I’ll-believe-you-for-now look, with a side of you-better-not-prove-me-wrong. Fiona had no desire to prove her mother wrong or right.

Alex and she were just friends and nothing was going to happen between them tonight.

It was nearing seven and her mom was getting her makeup done when the doorbell rang. Fiona had shot up from her seat on the floor of the bedroom where she was still reading Wicked, and raced to the door before any of the munchkins could.

She didn’t precisely glare them into the living room. They just scurried away when she picked up one of their mom’s stiletto heels. She’d never thrown it at them before, but she has thrown them at other girlfriends she’s had, and that was enough of a threat to send them back into the living room.

She took a deep breath and opened the door.

Alex stood on the other side holding a pizza in one hand and a six pack of coke in the other. Her bag was slung across one shoulder and she was wearing a hoodie, a backwards cap and baggy jeans big enough that Fiona was pretty sure both of them could fit in them and there would still be room for more people.

She caught Alex’s eye and saw the smirk shining through them, “You gonna let me in Fi?”

Fiona started at the nickname she still wasn’t used to and opened the door wider. Alex stepped inside and pressed a kiss on Fiona’s cheek, “Hey.”

Fiona blushed lightly and attempted very hard not to look away, “Hi.”

They smiled at each other until there was a screech of sound and Bobby and Kate began singing on the top of their lungs.

“I should warn you about something,” Fiona whispered grabbing the pizza from Alex and walking toward the kitchen. Alex followed her pretty closely. She opened the oven door and set the pizza inside before turning it to warm.

She turned and looked at Alex who had set the soda on top of the table and her bag right next to it.

“What should you warn me about?” she asked hands in her pocket. Fiona wondered for a second how they weren’t slipping down before she answered, “My munchkins aren’t your average set of munchkins.”

Alex snorted, “I don’t think that’s a warning. They were raised by you. Trust me, I’ve prepared myself mentally.”

Fiona just stared at Alex mouth open, “I’m not sure of to take that as a compliment or as an insult.”

“It’s a compliment,” Alex assured her beginning to rock on her heels. Fiona noticed she did this whenever she got nervous.

“So ready to meet my munchkins?” she asked walking over to where Alex was standing.

The blonde just nodded her head, “As ready as I’ll ever be. Don’t worry I already left you everything in my will.”

Fiona just shook her head and walked out to the living room.

Bobby and Kate were playing Karaoke Wars. It was a game Fiona had made up for them when they had gotten tired of playing board games.

“Hey guys,” she said stepping in front of the TV and turning it off.

They both grumbled at her and Bobby threw a pillow.

She rolled her eyes and looked at Alex who was standing behind the couch.

“Behave for a second and I’ll let each of you go twice before my turn.”

They both cheered and sat down.

“Okay guys remember when I told you all I wasn’t babysitting alone tonight?”

Bobby made a face at the word babysitting but nodded along with his sister.

“Well that’s Alex,” she pointed right behind them were Alex was leaning against the doorway looking entirely too casual.

Both Bobby and Kate looked at Alex before turning to glance back at Fiona.

“Is Alex a friend like Kali?” Bobby asked before Fiona could stop him.

“Or Magenta?” continued Kate.

Bobby was going to open his mouth probably to say the name of some other person she’d slept with.

“No, not like them. Alex is just a friend. We’re going to study together while we play.”

“And when you say study do you mean making out like you did with Anna, because I’m pretty sure that is not studying.”

Fiona felt herself blush to her hairline and she refused to meet Alex’s eyes. She sidestepped away from the TV and turned it on. The kids cheered and Fiona went over to Alex.

“And those are my munchkins,” she looked everywhere but at the girl still leaning against her doorway.

“I see,” Alex says and Fiona could just hear the laughter in her voice.

“Shut up,” she whined and covered her face. “I have low control issues. Sue me. I’m a teenager. I have needs and never really make it to my room in time.”

She fully expected Alex to start laughing then, but when she didn’t Alex had no choice but to look up to see her facial expression.

Alex was watching her with those eyes again. The same look she gave her just before doing something slightly inappropriate. Fiona braced herself to be kissed or touch or something, but nothing happened.

Alex just nodded like if she just realized something and said, “Why don’t we begin to study while they take both their turns?” Then she turned a smile to Fiona that could melt icicles, “I want to hear you sing.”

They spent most of the night sprawled in front of the TV, with the exception of when Fiona’s mom walked out and showed off her party attire for the night. Alex shook her hand all respectfully and complimented her. Fiona’s mom ate it all up and then mouthed at Fiona, ‘She’s a keeper.’

Fiona tried not to smother herself with a pillow.

Then there was the moment that the twins made Alex sing. It was after they’d made her sing them a Barbara Streisand song; they goaded Alex into singing “I’m yours” by Jason Mraz.

The twins sat on either side of her with a slice of pizza and watched as Alex opened her mouth to sing. She had a decent enough voice, but Fiona wasn’t really paying attention to that.

She was more concerned about the way her heart leaped to her throat and then started thudding erratically the moment Alex’s eyes locked on hers.

Theoretically Fiona knew what the song was about. It was about falling in love with someone when you least expect it and not being afraid of it. Of embracing it and giving that person all of you and expecting nothing in return. It was generally speaking a feel good song. She knew and understood this, but it was something entirely different having someone sing it to you.

The look in Alex’s eyes made Fiona think that if they were alone she would’ve already have had her and then some. She shuddered at that thought. The fact that it was the first scenario to jump into her mind and not the other way around meant trouble.

She looked away from Alex when the song ended and stood up to carry the dishes to the sink. She paused on the table sitting down and laying her head on the table. She took several deep breaths and stood up. She grinned slightly when the beginning tune of “Barbie Girl.” Bobby and Kate were obsessed with that song.

She walked out refusing to catch Alex’s eye and sat down in the single arm chair with her history book, even though they really weren’t studying to begin with.

The munchkins went for four more rounds before they began to get tired. They started watching TV and not an hour had passed before they were asleep.

Fiona looked at Alex then who was watching her like she’d been doing most of the night and smiled, “Want to help me get them upstairs?”

Alex just nodded.

She grabbed Kate and lifted her easily into her arms. The girl wrapped her arms around her shoulders and laid her head down on the crook of her neck. She carried her upstairs and put her in her bed. She kissed her forehead and tucked the sheets around her. She got to Bobby’s room in time to see Alex coax him into bed. She covered him and ruffled his hair.

She turned and smiled at Fiona who turned off the light and walked back down.

She began picking up all of the stuff lying around and stepped into the kitchen.

She knew Alex was following her.

She put the dirty dishes into the dishwasher and turned it on in silence. She took a deep breath ready to tell Alex that she didn’t have to stay when she felt the girl step right behind her.

“Fi,” she whispered right against her ear. “I have a confession to make.”

Fiona could swear that her knees were refilled with jelly. She started to tremble and she held on tighter to the counter.

“I’ve been thinking about kissing you all night long.”

Fiona felt a whimper crawl up her throat. She couldn’t do this. She wasn’t going to do this. It felt bad to do this. It felt like if she did do this, there was no going back.

She pushed her back and turned around sidestepping her before Alex trapped her against another stable surface.

“Alex, I…”

Alex stepped up to her, “Tell me you don’t like me or are at least not attracted to me and I’ll leave you alone about this.”

Fiona closed her eyes and stepped back, “I can’t…”

“Can’t what Fi?” Alex asked taking another step towards her. “It seems obvious that you can with other people.”

Fiona shook her head, “That’s not what I mean.”

“Then what do you mean?”

She looked up at Alex, and threw her hands up in the air, “What do you want from me?”

“Give me one reason,” Alex whispered stepping closer.

Fiona stepped back again like if this was some weird dance, “I don’t kiss people I’m not dating.”

Alex just smiled, “We’re sort of dating.”

Fiona couldn’t really help the smile that threatened to pull at her lips, “I don’t kiss until the third date.”

Alex shook her head, “I know that’s a lie.”

Fiona chuckled and licked her lips, “It still stands.”

“Well,” Alex says backing her right up against the wall. Fiona gulped and looked at her with wide eyes. “You can count that first lunch as our first date. And everyone after like a date. And this one would be like our tenth, which means our first kiss is long overdue.”

Alex’s hands were one on either side of her head. Her whole body was pressed against hers jeans scratching against her bare thighs. Fiona’s hands lay limp at her sides. She clenched her fingers as her heart began to flutter in her chest. Her head was downcast and she did not want to look up at Alex knowing that if she did all of her protest would crumble.

Alex moved her hands and cupping her cheeks tilted her head up. Fiona closed her eyes and felt Alex’s fingers flex against her temples. She could feel the calloused palms and smell the scent of aftershave covering the subtle smell of lavender. It was kind of intoxicating.

She felt Alex lean closer and bump their noses together.

“Alex,” she whispered still not opening her eyes. “You’re infringing on my personal space.”

She felt Alex slip on leg right in between hers the scratchy jean material between her thighs and push against her with her whole body. Fiona felt a full body shutter and she opened her eyes to see those green orbs so close she could see the spikes of hazel and gold swirling through.

“What personal space?” Alex huffed out before bringing their mouths together.

Fiona knew that fairy tales and stories where the first kissed happened and there were fireworks were all clichéd and made up and nothing like that really happened in real life. She had kissed enough girls to prove that you didn’t have to necessarily like someone to kiss them.

And it really wasn’t like that with Alex, just a soft press of lips that made her breath catch and felt nice, but then Alex coaxed her mouth open and deepened the kiss and Fiona lost all control.

She surged into Alex wrapping her arms around her neck and forcing her back. She reversed their positions rather quickly after that and pressed her against the wall forcing her legs open and straddling one leg. Alex bended her knees a bit to make the position easier and let Fiona take dominance over the kiss, wrapping one leg right behind Fiona’s thigh. The new position pushed their whole bodies together and into alignment and Fiona gasped feeling the electric sensation course through her body and exploding like fireworks in the pit of her stomach.

It was that what made her pull away.

She looked at Alex who wasn’t smirking at all, but whose eyes were wide open and the iris was blown wide.

She licked her lips and cleared her throat, “Sorry about that.”

Alex just smiled, “You’re dominant?”

Fiona shrugged, “Never had an incentive to be submissive.”

The way Alex looked at her after those words made her want to have an incentive.

Alex just pulled their hips together, “Does this mean we’re dating?”

Fiona just smiled, “I thought we covered that already.”

“Wanna go make out on the couch until your mom gets home?”

Alex looked so hopeful, but Fiona shook her head, “Nope!”

She smiled at Alex’s pout and leaned in and pressed a kiss on her mouth, “Wanna go to my room instead?”

~*~*~*~

Monday morning Fiona parked her car in her usual spot. She got out of the car stuffed everything important into her messenger bag and grabbed her coffee.

She slipped out of the car and hipped bumped her door close. She locked the door threw her keys into her bag and put the strap over her shoulder. She sipped her coffee and closed her eyes sighing happily.

All in all it was like any other Monday that is until someone bumped slightly into her and threaded their fingers together.

She smiled lightly and looked over to Alex who was not looking at her and had perched on her nose some shades that took up half of her face. But her lips were quirked up in a smirk. And she was swaggering.

Fiona just shook her head and lightly squeezed their fingers together.

They were drawing attention, but it didn’t seem to faze Alex. She was apparently used to having people openly point out to her. Fiona wasn’t. Sure she was the pariah of the school and everyone knew her as the scholarship student, but that was it.

People went out their way to avoid her.

Now with Alex, it felt as if everyone was criticizing her. Like if they were thinking that she wasn’t good enough for Alex or something.

Fiona made an attempt to pull their hands away, but Alex just squeezed their fingers slightly like if she understood what she was thinking about and walked them both to their first class talking about what happened on Sunday.

“I think it should be illegal to have a whole mass dedicated to the evils of being gay,” Alex huffed while they threaded their way through the crowded halls. Fiona just nodded slightly and cringed a bit at the look coming from half of the people in the halls.

“You really shouldn’t care what they think,” Alex’s voiced said almost conversationally. Fiona shook her head, “It’s not what they think about me that I’m worried about. It’s more what they’ll think about you. You’re new here. You don’t really want the name of the freak that hangs out with the scholarship whore.”

Alex shrugged. “Let them think what they want. All I care about is the fact that I get to do this,” she turned suddenly snagging Fiona’s other hand and without even as a by your leave backed her into the nearest stable surface and pressed their lips together.

Sure they had spent most of Saturday night doing this, making out on Fiona’s bed which led to a slight grinding thing that had them both too worked up and entirely unsatisfied by the time Alex had to leave. And even with all of that, when Alex pressed their lips together now Fiona still felt as if it was the first time. The frigging fireworks had dimmed a bit but now the fluttering in her stomach was even more intense.

Alex let go of her fingers and threaded her hands through Fiona’s hair tilting her head back and deepening the kiss.

She wrapped one arm loosely around Alex’s shoulders and the other pressed down low on her stomach in an attempt to ward off the butterflies that threatened to engulf her whole body.

Alex pulled back and thumbed at her cheeks until her eyes fluttered open, “And they don’t get to do that to you Fi. They don’t get to see the way your eyes go all liddy and your pupils blow wide open.” She leaned in and whispered right against her ear, hot mouth mouthing along the shell, “Or hear the little frustrated moans you make when you can’t get off.”

Fiona felt her breath catch in her throat and shakily wrapped her other arm around Alex’s shoulders.

“So as far as I’m concerned they can suck it for thinking that I’m lowering myself by being with you, because as far as I’m concerned you’re the best thing about this school.”

Fiona let out a breathless chuckle, “You are so cheesy.”

Alex just grinned and pressed a kiss right behind her ear then pulled back, “Come on let’s get to class.”

For the rest of the day, Fiona tried very hard to ignore what people were saying. It had been just like this when she had begun school back in her sophomore year.

People whispering behind her back about her clothing not being designer or the fact that someone had spread the rumor that she had slept with the Principal to let her into the school.

She had dealt with it all with grace, because back then she still believed in the good in people, back then she had Miranda.

She stabbed her pencil into her page and made a mark on the sketch she was working on. She sighed tearing the paper out and throwing it in the recyclable paper bin. She was maybe a tiny bit frustrated.

“Hey babe,” came the voice from behind her. She didn’t turn around or pause to catalogue the memories that that nickname brought to surface. She just dropped her head on top of her desk and gave out a low groan.

“No nicknames yet?” Alex amused voice asked. Fiona just sighed and felt something be put down beside her before she felt Alex’s hands on her shoulders.

She gave a low moan when the girl began to dig into her shoulders and neck area releasing the tension that was held there.

“Oh god,” she whimpered. “How are you so good at that?”

Alex just laughed and she felt something soft and wet hit the back of her neck, “I’m good at a lot of things Fi.”

Her words were slightly muffled by the skin of her shoulder. Fiona shuddered and turned her head to the side and kissed her. Alex was draped over her chair and thought the angle was difficult she managed to make it work.

Fiona twisted in her chair straightening up and wrapping her arms around Alex’s shoulders. Alex groaned low in the back of her throat and wrapped her arms around her waist lifting her out of her chair and setting her on top of the table. Fiona let her slip between her legs and smooth her hands down and under her shirt. She let Alex wrap hot hands around her back resting right against the tattoo she’d gotten when she was fifteen and push their hips together slotting them in place like if Alex wanted to fuck her.

Fiona stopped the kiss pushing against Alex’s chest and pulling back, “Wait!”

Alex groaned and pulled away, but didn’t move from her position.

Fiona ran her fingers over Alex’s head and ran her fingers straight down the strip of hair in the middle that was growing at a rather rapid rate. The purple stripe was starting to wear off and Fiona was sort of glad that it wasn’t permanent.

Alex just pushed forward a bit and pressed their lips together in an incredibly chaste kiss given their positions.

“God,” Alex groaned pulling away and resting their foreheads together. “What you do to me. It’s not entirely fair.”

Fiona just shrugged and smiled a bit when Alex tightened her hold on her pushing them together from groin to chest.

“Can’t we keep doing this forever and ever and never stop? Because I really never want to stop kissing you.”

Fiona smiled at the question and nodded slightly.

Alex pressed their mouths together again and she sighed against her melting into her and smiling into the kiss, because no matter what little things Alex did that seemed to remind her of Miranda she was not Miranda.

Miranda didn’t like to make out excessively. She preferred it only if it lead to sex. Which it usually did, but Fiona was fifteen at the time and she had wanted to feel like if she was more to Miranda than just a sex object.

That was when the problems between them really began.

Alex didn’t push her away but she seemed to realize that Fiona wasn’t into the kiss anymore. She pulled back and pressed their foreheads together, “What’s wrong, little darling?”

Fiona smiled at that. She had made Alex listen to the Beatles during their make out session of Saturday and it seemed to be the one song that she liked. She certainly kept calling her little darling enough times for it to seem that way.

She just pressed their mouths together once more, “Nothing is wrong. I’m just a little distracted. Got my big presentation on Friday.”

Alex just smoothed her fingers down her spine and encircled her arms around Fiona pulling her to her chest, “You know you’re a bad liar.”

Fiona stiffened against her and Alex just smoothed her hands down her back and waited until she had relaxed enough to continue talking, “I’m not trying to get you to tell me anything, Fi. I just want you to know that if you ever feel ready to talk about whatever it is that is really bothering you I’m here. You’re my girl now, little darling, and I don’t plan on letting you go.”

Fiona smiled into Alex’s throat and pressed their mouths together in a quick kiss, “How are you real?”

Alex just smiled and pressed their mouths together again before moving, “Now come one let’s eat. I even bought you a salad.”

Fiona grinned and jumped off the desk to sit on her chair. Alex pulled a chair over and sat next to her handing her the container with the salad, a small Italian dressing container, and a small bag of almond nuts.

She just smiled at Alex and pressed a kiss to her cheek. The girl opened her burger and bit into it with a vigor that Fiona usually saved for a new musical.

She just shook her head and mixed the condiments in her salad.

“So what are you going to do about that pesky audition for Wicked?”

Fiona shrugged and took a bite of her salad, “Probably not going to audition. I mean come on, what are my chances realistically of actually beating Madison Heart?”

Alex gave her a look that she really couldn’t comprehend, “You don’t have to try out for Elpheba you know?”

Fiona shrugged, “It’s the only part of that play that I find worth watching.”

Alex just smiled and shook her head lightly, “So you’re not willing to compromise?”

Fiona just gave her a look, “Not for Wicked.”

Alex just smiled, “Then beat Madison for the part.”

“Is that even possible?”

Alex just shook her head, “You’ll think of something.”

“I find the amount of confidence you have in me slightly disturbing.”

Alex just laughed and Fiona smiled at that deciding that Alex’s laugh was her new favorite thing.

Alex leaned forward and pressed a kiss on her cheek, “Don’t worry I know you won’t disappoint me.”

Fiona half smiled and took a bite of her salad hoping that she would never have to.

~*~*~*~

Fiona really should’ve thought it was too good to be true that Esmeralda hadn’t bothered her about the audition in days, maybe because she was too worried about the actual play they were doing. But the weekend for that had come and gone and Fiona really should have seen this coming.

She was walking to her car humming ‘Like a Prayer’ under her breath when she was suddenly pulled to a stop. She turned to look at the perpetrator because Alex would’ve just wrapped her arms around her
waist from behind and press a kiss to her neck and was not entirely shocked to see Esmeralda smiling maniacally at her.

“Hi Fiona!”

The girl was entirely too perky to be for real.

She was bouncing on the balls of her feet and Fiona really wanted to get to her car and drive away as fast as possible as far as possible.

“Yes, Esmeralda?”

“Well I’ve been thinking for the days and have found the perfect song for you to do for your audition.”

Fiona barely managed to contain her groan, “Did we not already have this conversation?”

Esmeralda shrugged and began swinging their hands back and forth. Fiona pulled her hand away, “I think I got it under control.”

Esmeralda’s eyes widened, “Really? What song? Can I help?”

“She already has help,” Fiona grinned at the voice and the arm that went over her shoulder and turned to Alex.

“Hi,” she said smiling breathlessly like if Alex hadn’t pulled her into the janitor’s closet an hour ago and disheveled her so thoroughly the blush was still working its way up her neck.

“Hey,” Alex smiled completely ignoring the sputtering Esmeralda was doing and leaning down to kiss her.

Fiona leaned against her and wrapped her arm around Alex’s shoulder. She was vaguely aware that Esmeralda was attempting to get her attention, but she was mostly aware of the hand Alex had dropped to her hip and was pushing against her shirt to get closer to her skin. She was aware that Alex had begun walking them backwards until they hit the stable surface of what she hoped was her car.

She wondered how long it was going to feel like this. How long it was going to last? This desperation that she felt to get naked as soon as possible and feel them touching everywhere.

She pulled away and Alex was smirking against her mouth. The way she was looming over her was possessively and Fiona felt a shudder run through her.

“Well,” Fiona heard the mutter from somewhere to her right. “I have never met someone so horribly uncouth.”

Alex flipped her off and trailed her lips to Fiona’s throat. She bit down and pulled the skin into her mouth suckling at the skin for a several second before letting go and licking at the red mark.

It screamed mine and Fiona wondered why Alex was being possessive.

“Like I said,” Alex turned to Esmeralda. “She already has help.”

Esmeralda’s eyes opened wide and she turned around and walked away. Fiona pushed Alex back, “What the hell was that all about?”

Alex shrugged unrepentantly, “She was flirting with you.”

Fiona just gave her a look, “She was not. No one at this school has ever flirted with me, but you.”

Alex rolled her eyes, “I can find at least five people in this parking lot that have flirted with you in the last week, but you just don’t notice.”

Fiona looked away blushing, “I never notice anyone.”

Alex gently nudged her back, “You noticed me.”

Fiona smiled, “It was kind of hard not to.”

The taller girl wrapped her arms around her waist and tugged her, “Come on, I gotta get home.”

Fiona let herself be manhandled into her car. Alex smiled and pecked her cheek, “Drive safe and all that I’ll call you later.”

“Who are you the boss of me?”

Alex just grinned and pressed two fingers against her neck right where she had marked Fiona, “What makes you think that?”

Fiona blushed at the implications and looked away.

Alex just leaned in and pressed their lips together, “Want to come home with me?”

Fiona’s eyes sparkled, “Oh is that an invitation?”

Alex smirked, “It’s more than an invitation. It’s a preposition wrapped in an innocent costume. I really want to see how you’ll look all splayed out against my sheets.”

Fiona gulped. She looked into Alex’s eyes that were so green and so amazingly open. No matter how much of a badass she pretended to be, Fiona could tell exactly what was going through her head because of her eyes.

She nodded slowly, “Need a ride home?”

Alex just stared at her for a second without making any indication that she had heard the offer. She just continued looking until Fiona began to squirm and look away, “Alright.”

She walked over to the passenger side and slid inside the car. Fiona clicked her seat belt into place and started the car, but before she could put the car into drive Alex grabbed her hand.

She turned to the girl in question, “What?”

Alex bit her lip. Then opened and closed her mouths several times before actually speaking, “You do realize that you could’ve said no. I wouldn’t have minded if you didn’t want to come over and try out my bed.”

Fiona looked at her confused for a second before realizing where this was going.

“And you do know that some rumors are just rumors right?”

Alex nodded, “That’s not it. I want you to want this Fi.”

Fiona turned to look forward and shook her hand off before putting the car into drive, “I do want this.”

But maybe, not in the way that you would want me to.

Fiona pulled up into the circular driveway of the house that was as big as her whole apartment complex and looked over at Alex, who kept sending her nervous looks as if she expected to be asked lots of questions on how was she related to the guy who was easily the best lawyer in the East Coast.

Fiona just turned off her car and leaned back against the seat looking over at her, “You can stop acting scared. I’m not going to question you.”

Alex relaxed visibly, “It’s not that. It’s just, my mom is home.”

Fiona blinked at her because really, why was that a problem?

Alex just sighed and slumped in the seat, “She’s not very supportive.”

“About you being gay?”

Alex made a noise and nodded, “So we’ll tell her we’re working on a project.”

The girl shrugged, “She’ll make us work with the door open and stop by every few minutes for some stupid reason.”

Fiona cocked her head to the side, “What’s really bothering you?”

Alex began tapping an incessant beat against the dashboard, “I’m just not really comfortable here.”

Fiona didn’t know why she moved here. Fiona realized that she really didn’t know much about Alex and that Alex also didn’t know much about her.

“Why did you move here then?”

Alex got this faraway look in her eyes that made it seem like her mind was revisiting another place.

“My dad got a promotion,” she says looking back at Fiona. “It’s in South Africa and he felt that it would be better if I came to live with my mom for a while and finished my education here.”

Fiona felt that there was more to the story but she did not call her out on it. She just nodded, “I didn’t tell my mom I was gay until she found me making out with this girl about a year ago.”

Alex smirked at that before laughing and Fiona felt that she had accomplished something, “Come on let’s go inside. What is the worst thing your mom can do?”

That apparently was the wrong thing to say. Once they were inside of the house Alex’s mom came down on them and after asking unnecessary, unpleasant questions she let them go upstairs with the promise that Alex would keep her door open.

Alex crashed on one of the bean bag chairs she had on the floor of her room and groaned, “Sorry about her.”

Fiona nodded absentmindedly and started poking around the room that was almost as big as her living room and kitchen combined. Alex had a desk that had a closed laptop on top as well as various articles of clothing. Well the clothing was everywhere really, like if she was too lazy to put it away. The entire room smelled like a mixture of boy cologne and sweet like cherries.

The thing that caught her attention the most was the unmade bed that was smack dap in the middle of the room clothed in Star Wars sheets.

“Sorry about the mess too.”

Fiona looked at Alex who was looking at her deliberately. She smiled and pulled off her shoes, “It’s alright. It makes you seem more human if your room is messy.”

She knew Alex was about to say something but she could see how the words vanished from her head the second she took one deliberate step towards her bed.

Fiona just grinned and lowered her eyes, “Now I vaguely remembered you saying something about having me splayed out against your sheets. And by the way you should’ve mentioned they were Star Wars sheets. I would’ve put on my Princess Leia costume.”

Alex groaned and threw her head back hitting the wall. Fiona felt that her mission was accomplished and without further ado jumped into her bed. She landed with a light thud and took a deep breath of the smell that permeated the bed clothes. It was like the rest of the room but there was the subtle smell of sex. She hid a frown against a pillow before turning around and looking at Alex with a coy smile on her face.

The girl was watching her with wide eyes like if she couldn’t believe that Fiona was actually in her bed.

“You’re in my bed,” she said in an almost breathless voice that made Fiona squirm against the bed. She pulled at the sheets that were trapped under her body and pulled them over her head. She hid under them until she felt the bed dip down. She pulled the sheets down a bit and saw Alex’s smiling face above her own.

“Hey,” she whispered feeling suddenly very aware of the fact that she was on Alex’s bed.

“Hey,” Alex whispered back but made no attempt to close the distance between their lips. Fiona unwrapped one hand from where it was trapped under the sheets and cupped Alex’s cheek. The girl leaned into the touch and sighed sending shivers down her spine when the breath touched the sensitive side of her wrist.

“My mom is downstairs,” Alex whispered leaning down so that she was resting on her elbows and that much closer to a kiss.

Fiona nodded, “Will she kick me out?”

Alex nodded, “Probably.”

Fiona nodded again and rolled out from her position, “Come on then. Let’s do this project that we have to do together.”

Alex just watched as she slipped out of the bed and stood up fixing her clothes, “You do realize we technically don’t really have a project to do.”

Fiona nodded, “But there are still other things we can do that don’t involve making out on your very comfortable bed. They aren’t as worthwhile, but they are still there.”

Alex shook her head smiling lightly, like she was fond of Fiona and crawled off her bed.

“So what did you have in mind?”

They spent the next three hours working on a routine for the Wicked audition. While Fiona still maintained that she was not going to audition, it never hurt anyone to know all of the words to “Defying Gravity.”

By the time Fiona had to be heading home, Alex was well versed in several Wicked songs and even some from Rent. She had also gotten the shock of her life when she found out that Alex had never even heard about the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

She vowed to initiate the girl later that month.

She had behaved all day. Well only if they weren’t counting the trip to the kitchen to get snacks when Alex had casually said that she was never going to be able to masturbate without the image of Fiona laying out on her bed. Fiona had waited until they were heading back to the room before pushing the girl into the bathroom and kissing them both breathless.

Fiona drove home with an unusual smile on her face. She felt somewhat happy about that fact that they didn’t have sex.

She walked into her house humming under her breath and kissed the munchkins on their foreheads before twirling pass her harried mother who was looking for her other shoe and slipping into her room to jump into her bed.

Sure it didn’t smell like Alex, but if she sniffed hard enough the scent was still there. She didn’t realize how much of a difference this was from her usual routine until she looked up and her mother was standing there in shock, “Yes mom?”

The woman shook her head slowly, “I’m about to go. You got the kids covered for dinner?”

Fiona just nodded smiling, “Don’t work too hard now.”

Her mom gave her the we-will-talk-about-this-later look and left.

She spent the rest of the night playing with the kids and tired them out enough that they were in bed at a reasonable hour.

She took a shower and sang loudly in the shower to various pop songs.

She toweled herself off then stood naked in front of her full length mirror.

Miranda had made her feel self conscious about her body. She had felt that it was disgusting and that no one would want her. That Miranda was the only one who would want her. She did learn over time that that was not the case, but it didn’t stop the little insecurities that leaked through every now and then.
She tugged at her hair which was long enough to cover her breasts which were easily a B or a C if she wore the right bra. She was skinny enough. Not slender, there was that rounded soft part that could be formed into abs if she had the will power to go to the gym. She was a dancer, but she wasn’t getting much dancing done these days.

Her hips were a bit too wide for her like, but they were hers. She had a tattoo on each hipbone, a trio of stars on the left and a handprint on the right. There was a sun tattooed around her belly button that trailed on the sides to the back where the name Miranda was written in curly letters hidden by the vines of decay and aging that Fiona had taken to tattooing over it after Miranda left.

She placed her trembling hands against her thighs and wondered how it would make Alex feel if she knew what each tattoo meant. Would she still like her? Or would she think she was damaged goods already owned by someone else?

She looked away from the mirror and pulled on her pajamas before leaving the bathroom. Her phone began to ring the ring tone was unfamiliar to her and it seemed that she should not let Alex mess around with her phone anymore.

She spilled her bag out to find it and found a small note attached to a small plastic flower. She picked up the phone smiling and pulled out the note saying, “Hello?”

“If I know you well enough by now,” Alex voice began in her ear. “Then you just emptied your bag out to find your phone and found that little present I left you.”

Fiona smiled widely, “Yes actually.”

“Go ahead and read the note I’ll wait,” Alex informed her.

Fiona opened the note and grinned at the words. They were exactly what she needed to hear after all the scrutinizing she had been doing in the mirror.

“You totally stole that from song,” she teased.

Alex readily admitted it, “Well it made me think of you, because you really are amazing Fi.”

Fiona threw herself back on her bed and smiled at the ceiling like a fool.

“So what are you doing?”

She heard the humor in her voice when Alex told her, “Lying in bed with my hand down my boxer shorts thinking of you on my bed.”

Fiona rolled her eyes then smirked, “Did you call me for phone sex?”

“Your voice is phone sex,” Alex countered practically purring over the phone. “All I gotta do is listen to you speak and that’s it for me.”

Fiona felt something warm spread across her body concentrating in the pit of her stomach.

“You’re unbelievable Alex,” she muttered and got more comfortable in her bed. “Why did you call?”

“Can’t I just call to talk to you?”

Fiona felt herself blush, “Well you can, but what do you want to talk about?”

She heard Alex chuckle, “Something random? I’m pretty sure you’re used to random conversations.”

“I’ll give you that,” Fiona said getting more comfortable in her bed.

She was barely given a warning before Alex began talking about this new video game. She was appalled to find out that Fiona knew nothing of video games and set around to remedy the situation.

Fiona listened more amused by the enthusiasm Alex was giving the subject than video games themselves. Halfway through the tirade she had pulled out her lap top and had begun surfing the internet for random images.

Alex concluded the tirade by saying, “It’s something that you have to play to see whether or not you like it.”

Fiona nodded to herself, “I’ll keep that in mind.”

Alex laughed, “So what are you doing, bright eyes?”

Fiona gave an involuntary laugh at the nickname and shook her head, “Not much listening to you, attempting to figure out if that’s a picture of a duck or a goose.”

She heard Alex chuckle, “That it?”

“Yeah,” Fiona replied pushing the laptop back and laying back down on the bed watching the plastic glow in the dark stars stuck on her roof.

“You ever wonder if there is any life out there?” she asked Alex quietly.

“In outer space?”

“Yes,” Fiona says while stretching her arm out in an attempt to reach the stars on her ceiling.

“Well,” she heard the rustle of clothes moving around so she figured that Alex had just gotten into her bed. “I think it’s pretty arrogant of humans to think that we are the only intelligent life form out there.”

“Very good answer,” Fiona says placing her hand on her stomach.

“I like to believe that there will be an alien invasion one day,” Fiona chuckled. “Why?”

“Because it would be endlessly funny to see the reactions around here,” Alex says sounding a bit sleepy. “Especially in America, since the United States believes it is the center of the Universe. We aren’t even the center of our solar system.”

Fiona was just as amused by this as she was with the video games. She let her keep talking until the words started becoming disconnected and not making sense and too much pausing between sentences.

“Are you falling asleep on me Lexi?” she asked humor coloring her voice.

“No,” was the sluggish response. Fiona found herself listening to the other girl’s breathing.

“You’re too falling asleep,” she whispered.

There was no answer. Alex was already asleep.

Fiona closed her eyes and kept her phone open right next to her ear, the soft sounds of Alex breathing lulling her to sleep.
