Reason #94 Why My Dad Is Cooler Than My Mom:

He merely solves problems, while my mom goes batshit.

Who was the stupid girl who tried to leave her house this evening to spread Christmas cheer? Yeah. And who was the girl who subsequently got stuck because of the FOOT of snow? Uh huh. You got it.

I got stuck in my driveway of all places (common for Michigan), and while I thought it was kind of comical to be stuck at the end of one's driveway, my mother was furious. She came bustling outside in her winter jacket while the guy across the street was trying to help push me back up the drive, shooting daggers with her eyes. The guy pushed and I floored it and managed to get the entirety of the car into the driveway. The guy left. My mom didn't.

It got to the point where, as I was shoveling snow and scraping it out from under my tires in an attempt to return to the garage, I said, "Yeah, I know, your daughter is a big fat fucking moron, just go inside the house, please, because I can't stand having you out here staring at me with that look being all pissed off."

Thankfully, she went. I got in the car, burst into tears, and called my dad on my cell.

My dad merely said, in the affable way he usually has, "Ah, I should have insisted you take the truck. That was my bad. Well, Paul said he'd be here in about twenty minutes to plow the driveway. Just come on back inside and get warmed up. It's okay, your mom's not mad, she was just concerned."

"Yeah," I sniffled from my car, "Well she has a funny way of showing it! I didn't think it was a big deal but she went and made it one!"

He lowered his voice. "It's not a big deal. And yeah, she did. That's what your mom does. Come on, now, come back in here and calm down."

So I did, and Paul The Cool Lawn/Snowplow Guy came and helped my stupid ass put my car back in my garage, and although I attempted to give him twenty bucks, he waved it off with a smile. "Nah, I don't want that! I've been doing this for people all day."

My dad can infuriate me like no other human being on the planet can, particularly when his COPD is acting up and he's hacking up a lung and making the most disgusting noises in the world, but I swear, nobody on this planet loves me quite the way my dad does.

And the same goes for me, to him.
