Missing Them
“Kibum, what’d you get for number four? Kibum? Kibum!”
“Oh! Yeah?”
“You seem to spacing out a lot” his friend stated.
“More than usual?” Kibum responded with a grin.
“Yeah…what’s up?”
“I guess I’m just…missing some people right now” Kibum answered thoughtfully.
“Maybe you should…call these people?”
Kibum sighed. “Maybe.”
“Or better yet, visit them! You haven’t seen them in a while, right? And they haven’t seen you.”
“Well, yeah. But that’s the thing. I’m sure they’re used to NOT seeing me by now. And I don’t think I’m the type of person people miss anyway. It’s not like I talk much or anything. They may not even care.”
“What great excuses! You’re right, you shouldn’t visit them,” his friend answered, his voice full of sarcasm.
Kibum rolled his eyes. “Fine! I’m abandoning you to study on your own. Hope you have fun” he said, gathering his books and starting to go.
“If you REALLY need an excuse, tell them you visited to say “Hi” from me,” Jaelong told him with a smile.
“Right, that works better if they KNOW you,” Kibum answered, narrowing his eyes at his friend before walking away rapidly. Suddenly, he was eager to reach his destination.
Despite his best efforts, he couldn’t stop his heart from racing as he entered the elevator. And it seemed to only get faster as each floor passed. Calm down, calm down, calm- Wait, I should text Donghae to make sure people are here!
-Hey Donghae
-Hey, Kibum! How r u? What have u been up to?
-Nothin’ much. Are the members busy right now? Are ya’ll in the dorms, or still at schedules?
-Can’t answer for everyone, but I’m here with Heechul in his room. Really, what have you been up to? It’s been a while.
-Yeah, I guess it has. One sec, brb
Donghae rolled his eyes. “Wow, what timing,” Donghae said.
“What?”
“Kibum just texted me.”
“Really? How is he? Did he want something? Or he’s just missing you, too.”
“I…don’t know. He didn’t tell me how he is, and didn’t ask how I-“
Suddenly a knock came.
“Come in! It’s unlocked” Heechul called, not looking up from his computer.
Kibum entered as quietly as he could.
“Hey”-Donghae looked up from his phone-“Kibum! How…? Kibummie!”Was all he got out between getting up and almost knocking Kibum down with his hug. He felt Kibum’s arms return that hug, tight.
“Donghae! It’s…very good to see you. And you, Heechul hyung,” Kibum added as he felt his arms enfolding them both. “Missed ya’ll.”
Donghae said “We’ve-I’ved-“We’ve is right” Heechul interjected. “Okay, ‘we’ve’ missed you, too!”
Suddenly hitting Kibum, Heechul said “You should visit more often.”
“Yeah, and give us notice,” Donghae added, as Heechul moved to sit back on his bed.
Kibum just smiled, keeping one arm around Donghae as the two moved to sit with Heechul and talk.
I guess for a while, at least, I don’t have to concentrate, Donghae thought, curling his arm around Kibum’s waist. This is good.
