A New Hope Commentary

I rewatched the OT on my VHS (so there’s no executive meddling).  Here’s my commentary:

A New Hope

-Opening scene! I wonder if Leia killed that stormtrooper, or just stunned him?

-Obi-Wan’s memory is going with old age: he stopped calling himself Obi-Wan after Luke was born, not before.

-Anakin was a cunning warrior? What an understatement.

[That scene was clearly a refernce to his ANH comments, particularly his "so uncivilized" comment.]

:nods:

[The stupid radio drama ruined this by making her act all wimpy in the face of torture. The radio drama fucks up a lot of things.]

I didn't know about that. How annoying.

[Everybody was more racist back in 1977.]

True, but still disappointing.

[Told you Ben didn't respect Han]

...?

[Make up your mind. I thought you wanted to be a Mando.]

No no, I'm consistent (unlike someone with whom we're both familiar). The original troopers were clones of Jango Fett, a Mando. Ergo, they're all Mandos.

[I love the scene where he charges the troopers and then has to run the other way. The SE fucks that up.]

It is a great scene. I don't remember what the SE did, I very rarely watch it.

[I know. Why didn't they think of that?]

Because they're trained to follow orders, not think?

[I think one factor in this is that it was felt that comforting someone was something women do rather than men.]

Ah yes, the role of the caregiver. Still sexist. ;)

[The actor died in 2005. :(]

I didn't know that. :(

[I love that scene. Han is the ordinary guy, but he's above average.]

Everyone is, in their own way. :D
