A Writing Experiment

Right, so, this week in one of my English classes we had to rewrite a fairytale using only words from a newspaper article. This sounds difficult, and trust me, it's a lot harder than it sounds, even. Every single word that appeared in my story had to show up in the article. I cheated a little bit and changed some things around (tenses and things) ( Read more... )

Three little pigs!

For one of my poetry classes we had to create a poem using words/lines from a newspaper article.

I used one of Jeremy's from the Sunday Times.

It was the surrealist poem ever.

And I didn't even play around with the words, just stuck random sentences together.

My lecturer hated me (long story...) and asked why I had left it so close to the original - I said I simply couldn't better the best!

Haha, what an answer - love it!

Do you still have a copy of that hanging around? I would love to read it!

And you're right, it is a very odd recreation of the Three Little Pigs :)

Unfortunately it was five years and three house moves ago - so it's unlikely I still have it!

Is always fun to do though - he has the most incredible turn of phrase.

I absolutely love his style of writing - there are few people that write exactly how they speak and his voice is so distinct in his articles. If they removed Clarkson's name and put it in an unrelated collection of articles, you'd know immediately who wrote it and I love that!

I bet it was a brilliant poem anyway ;)

And the three little pigs to be Top Gear presenters instead...oh, hold on, that might involve quite a few changes ;)

I was contemplating using an article from Top Gear to rewrite Cinderella and have a car as the coach, Hammond as Cinderhammond, May as Prince Charming, Jeremy as the evil stepmother and the Stig as the Fairy Godmother but sadly it had to be a newspaper article and I figured that would take far too much tweaking lol

The modern 3 Little Pigs story: genius!
It seems like something really fun to try, and I could only dream of my English class being as interesting.

It's the most unusual class I've ever taken but the prof is cool and the assignments generally tend to be pretty good too. :)

I'd say you did a fabulous job on the assignment! Must have really exercised your writing muscles with that one. :) Perhaps I'll give it a shot if I get time one of these days, and if I'm not too chicken. lol

You should! Thanks, I'm glad you think it's decent, lol, we'll see what the prof thinks this afternoon!
