Right, so, this week in one of my English classes we had to rewrite a fairytale using only words from a newspaper article. This sounds difficult, and trust me, it's a lot harder than it sounds, even. Every single word that appeared in my story had to show up in the article. I cheated a little bit and changed some things around (tenses and things) but otherwise, I think I did okay. I thought I'd post it here, see if you guys can figure out what fairytale I was trying to rewrite!
Five ambitious Council chiefs backed out of their homes, investigating a public outcry in the outskirts of the city. They saw several environmental campaigners enthusiastically scheming to blow their buildings over with wind power. The environmental campaigners had renewable energy sources and the power of millions of tonnes of wood chips and could last until 2011.
“Stop or we will get the authorities!” said one Council chief.
“You are major landowners and we disapprove of your coal-fired power stations!”
“We offer power at a reduced rate,” said the unpopular chief.
“We will blow your house down if you do not improve the city’s eco-credentials!” announced the environmental campaigners.
The protests of the five Council chiefs made no difference to the environmental campaigners. In the most controversial move of the year, the environmental campaigners used their wind power to blow over their homes.
The Council chiefs launched an investigation but the Cabinet decided that their homes would be replaced with 125-metre turbines to offset energy bills for local residents.
So, can you figure it out? It even has a moral - eco-friendly is the way to go! The article I used was about the plans for wind turbines that were supposed to be built in the city but are now on hold. :)
