It's starting to seem likely that the Red Cross won't be sending many more volunteers to the Gulf for the time being, and they still have people who have been waiting weeks if not months since they completed their training, so it looks like those of us who went through training more recently won't get to go.
In light of this, I've resumed the job search. Hopefully I'll be able to land a barback position soon so I can get some bar experience while I'm saving up money. That should make it easier to get an actual bartending job later.
I'm bummed that I probably won't get to go down to the Gulf Coast, but on the other hand, it will be very, very nice to have a job again, not just for the money, but also so I have something to do on a daily basis. I'm too ADD to be able to focus on studying all day without some kind of structure, so I've been doing a lot of sitting around which is not good for one's mental health.
