Today was the first test of my new auto insurance policy from Progressive. Wednesday morning I noticed that the itty-bitty chink that has been in my windshield for nearly a year turned into a 2 foot long giant. Fantastic. However, since this happened to me in the past, I now had an opportunity to compare the service differences between the traditional insurance I used to have and my new insurance which does not have agents. In both instances glass repair was covered 100%.
Previously: I had to call my insurance office and get someone on the phone. This was not always easy. For my last windshield repair, I called the office, then they called the repair shop, then the office called me back, then I waited for the repair shop to call me to set up the appointment. I had to use the shop they recommended.
Currently: I called Progressive, went through a two-step phone tree, talked to one guy for 10 minutes who set up the repair appointment for me while I was on the phone with him. I could use their preferred vendor (which I did) or I could have used a repair shop of my choosing.
They are supposed to come fix my windshield on Monday and I hope the weather cooperates because I'm not entirely comfortable driving with that big crack. With my luck I will get pulled over for it. So far: Progressive 1, Insurance Agency 0.
Now the question is, do I tell my landlady that someone is coming over to fix my windshield or do I wait until she calls the police to report that someone is breaking into my car by removing the windshield? :)
