Today's lesson comes out of the Army Regulation 608-99, Family Support, Child Custody, and Paternity.
In the case of a single family household not living in government housing and in the absence of a financial support agreement or court order, a soldier is obligated to provide financial support equaling to their BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) II with Dependents. An equal share is given to all family members except former spouses, if the spouse is on active duty, or if the battalion commander releases the soldier from this duty.
