work!

It's 8pm on a friday night, and I'm in the office twiddling my thumbs, checking facebook, drinking some Cabernet, and awaiting the flurry of crazed orders that are sure to be barked at us once the agency meeting is done with the directors.

Tomorrow will be my sixth day in a row this week, all of them over 11 hours apiece. The directors are sweet as pie, but British-- which means that there is absolutely no limit to the outrageous expectations they have. $14000 plane tickets, $800 a night rooms with ocean views, wanting to be picked up from LAX by a chauffeur driven Audi A8-- all standard over there, apparently. The real sweetener on the deal though is how ridiculous our schedule has been.

I've been working for several weeks straight now, linking various jobs back2back, and even I've got to admit that the sheer length of time we've spent in the office on this job is kind of amazing. You think you've adjusted to this great, immense, sucking up of time-- and then, hello.

I realized that in order to stay in any kind of shape, I can no longer wait for my schedule to accommodate running after work, so I'm getting up at 5:45am every other day or so to run 3 or 4 miles. It's kind of terrible, but kind of awesome at the same time. After ceasing to run regularly for the last 3 months or so, my legs are screaming at me to stop, but feel oddly relieved at the same time to be moving in that way once again.

Now, if I could only find a way to make sunset happen in the wee hours of the morning as well, maybe I could manage to cram in the bliss that is to have a glass of bourbon and read some Raymond Carver in the afternoon...
