I was supposed to go to jury duty yesterday. Unfortunately, most of Upper Marlboro was underwater when I got down there. The jury form said to park at the Equestrian Center and get bussed over to the court house, and there was no way to get to the Equestrian Center due to the 2 feet of water covering the lot. No answer at the jury duty line, and when I got through they told me to try to find parking "at a meter." Um, no. I'm not getting a $50 ticket for my civic duty.
A found day! What's a girl to do? This girl felt like shopping.
I didn't want to deal with any malls, and I didn't feel like spending a ton of money. Then I remembered that the thrift store is 25% off on Mondays.
I spent $100, grabbing most of a summer wardrobe for Maggie, books for Maggie, clothes for me and a couple pairs of slacks for Drew. One pair of those slacks actually worked for him, and he wore them today.
I picked myself up a bathing suit, tags still on it. When I saw it I was drawn to its garishness, and even commented to the cashier that I couldn't let an item that hideous get away. In all honesty I have a string of luck buying on-the-rack ugly clothes that end up being pretty cool when worn. The bathing suit is slightly small, but I think that losing another 5 lbs ought to make it definitely wearable.
I picked up Maggie two of those Great Illustrated Classics books, thinking that she'd like them when she is a little older. I know that they are abridged, but I found that having read a lot of those as a child made it easier to read and parse the real novels as an adult. She brought
Robin Hood to school with her today, and made a bookmark for it. She asked that we read chapter one tonight. That kid is a trip.
