I personally see nothing wrong with buying a "flipped" house - of course the carpenter is supposed to make a profit! It's called sweat equity. :-) I don't now how to do it myself, so I focus on what I know how to do - help women have babies. Our house was not per say flipped, but it was renovated quite a bit immediately before sale. I love it and wish they did more and charged us extra 10K - now I had to find people to replace the roof, the outdated heat pump, I will need to find people to put in a new deck. Wish the previous owners did it all!

That said, it's important to know whether the house was "flipped", and use your relative to pick out the best one on the market!

Flipping isn't bad in and of itself as well. But if he didn't put in the proper work to merit the new price, then you dodged a bullet. Chalk it up to a lesson and cautiously move on to other prospects - sounds like this one wasn't meant to be.
